Some need to be programmed overnight or when the vehicle is not in use. The automaker said it will use the system for preventive maintenance, adjustments, and improvements to basic operations.

It will also improve some of the features built into truck electronics.

However, the automaker also said that additional features will be unlocked for an additional fee. Think of it as a truck with in-app purchases.

Automation

Ford plans to sell an update that will enable hands-free driving on more than 100,000 miles of pre-mapped roads in the US and Canada.

The system uses a camera facing the driver, which monitors the driver’s head position and eye view to monitoring whether the driver is ready to continue control of the vehicle. Otherwise, it slows down the vehicle and shuts down the system.

A driver will not be able to sleep or perform non-driving tasks while the system is running.

Still, they need to be careful with roads and traffic. It will be available in the third quarter of 2021, but will only be available in trim levels where the Ford Active Drive Assist Prep Pack is available, as equipment, standard or optional.

Technology Inside

The automaker equips the truck with the SYNC 4 infotainment system. He said the new SYNC is better at speech recognition than the previous generation.

It also provides wireless connectivity to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Another feature is 911 Assist, which automatically alerts emergency responders in the event of an accident.

Instead, designers took the Porsche 911 approach, applying evolutionary changes to the exterior while making major changes under the bitten and tucked skin.

There’s a hybrid powertrain with a range of up to 700 miles, an onboard generator available that can power anything from a comfortable outdoor movie night to a full-tilt construction site, a redesigned infotainment suite, advanced hands-free driver assistance, a desk, a sleeping chair, hidden equipment in the rear body, good zone lighting, revised interior design, and a smarter crane system. It’s in addition to everything that made the F-150 so popular.

But that fixture list only scratches the surface of the improvements Ford is making for bread and butter vehicles.

What’s New

The major addition for 2022 is the F-150’s first gas-electric powertrain, which Ford hopes 10 percent of its new trucks can carry. This hybrid powertrain, branded PowerBoost, pairs a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with a 35-kilowatt electric motor and a 1.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery – this package easily pulls the Ram 1500.

The F-150 Hybrid has 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. As for durability, hybrids should be as strong as nails.

That tiny battery means limited electric range, although the new PowerBoost hybrid has to be the most powerful F-150 available by a practical margin. At the very least, it would be a respectable crane, with Ford promising a maximum towing of up to 12,000 pounds.

However, there are some doubts about this machine. It uses a design similar to the Ford Explorer Hybrid and Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring (plug-in hybrid), with an electric motor integrated into the transmission.

In our experience, the level of refinement, both in Ehe Xplorer and Aviator, is still lacking.

Often, the vehicle is unsure whether to reach the electric motor or gas engine, which results in unpleasant behavior, including sudden spikes in speed.

The new F-150 hybrid system should solve this problem with a revised transmission and additional calibration work on the part of Ford engineers, F-150 Engineering Manager Dawn Piechocki told Motor1.com.

Joining PowerBoost is Ford’s new Onboard Pro Power generator, which sounds like really good technology.

Basically, owners can use their trucks to power various electrical appliances via plugs in the bed.

The Pro Power Onboard is available with an electric capacity of up to 2.0 kW on the gas-only F-150, while the F-150 Hybrid comes with a standard 2.4 kW capacity or an optional 7.2 kW capacity.

The two standard settings are equipped with twin 120-volt outlets, while the 7.2 kW setting offers four 120 volt plugs and one 240 volt outlet.

Even the most unpowered setup can work admirably on the back door, with Ford claiming the Power Onboard 2.0-kW Pro system can manage electric heating, TV, portable speakers, mini-fridge, and blender at the same time.

On the high side, the 7.2 kW setting can power all the tools a construction crew might need to frame a home.

Joining the bunk-available Pro Power Onboard system is a fully lit box and back door with a proverbial number of tricks up its sleeve. The available Tailgate Work Surface turns an open tailgate into a platform for chopping wood, taking measurements, or even a stand for your phone.

A Ford spokesman told Motor1.com that it added a special point for the C-clamp on the tailgate after learning the owner damaged their truck with the device.

For towing, Ford’s excellent Pro Trailer Backup Assist is back, although it now joins a more advanced camera suite and towing-focused telematics. Owners can use CHMSL-mounted cameras to monitor the bed and can check trailer lights via the instrument cluster or the FordPass smartphone app.

The cabin is also more useable. The optional Interior Work Surface gives a fairly good feel to the table or table, which is a valuable feature for owners who frequently work or eat in their vehicles.

While there is a simplified setup for trucks with benches, the captain’s seat has the neatest system possible, with a folding derailleur and a clamshell center console that can create a completely flat work surface.

And if you prefer to sleep, the available Max Recline Seats fold up to nearly 180 degrees, making the F-150 a valid place to wink.

While the F-150 appears to be well-suited for work and leisure, getting to any destination (ultimately) will be easier too, thanks to Ford’s recently announced Active Driving Assistant.

The system originally announced for the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover uses a variety of sensors and a driver-facing camera to facilitate hands-free driving.

However, this is a late availability item, requiring drivers to select a hardware package first when ordering their truck and then pay for over-the-air updates.

Speaking of, besides the Active Driving Assistant upgrade, all F-150s will offer free over-the-air updates for the life of the truck.

The F-150’s most obvious improvements are in the cabin, where drivers will find a revised infotainment system that works via the standard 8.0-inch touchscreen or the available 12.0-inch screens.

The touch screen runs the latest version of the Ford Sync system, which is now fully developed for its fourth generation.

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is also available, featuring some of the same striking animations introduced in the current Explorer.

As you might expect based on that list, there is a lot of new here. But Ford hasn’t disposed of the baby with the bathwater.

The new hybrid powertrain is joined by a carryover engine that includes the 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost, the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, and the base 3.3-liter V6.

As we said, the F-150 Hybrid packs 430 hp and 570 lb-ft, while the rest of the lineup should broadly match the 2020 truck output, although a more powerful Ford EcoBoost may be on the way.

Working alongside every powertrain, from hybrid to diesel to turbo to V8, is a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-drive remains standard, while four-wheel drive is available.

Ford F-150 Interior

Ford has made some substantial changes to the cabin, although the overall impact on the design is relatively minor.

The biggest news is the appearance of an available 12.0-inch touchscreen, along with an optional digital instrument cluster, giving the dashboard a new F-150 a much more modern touch.

Below that screen, Ford refreshed the climate control layout, adding a dedicated display knob for temperature. Overall, the entire center stack looks and feels more premium.

Beyond that change, Ford pays attention to cabin details. There is a small touch that accentuates the corners in the cabin and the choice of attractive materials.

The Limited has a neat mesh-like dashboard material while there are some interesting finishes to some of the metal at King Ranch.

The skin quality on the two trucks we saw in person was impressive, although the new F-150 still lacks the detail found on high-end Ram models.

Even so, the distance between Ford and his rival from Auburn Hills was much closer than before, and Ram should have been nervous.

The Exterior of the 2022 Ford F150

Yes, the exterior changes don’t look that big. But while Ford is very close to the current F-Series design, the reality is that most of the truck’s body panels are new. In particular, there’s a redesigned hood and striking new doors that adopt chamfer edges at the top and bottom.

The result of this touch is a more refined design – doors, in particular, make a big difference, capturing light in a way that is far different from today’s trucks. Other changes are even lighter, such as tweaked headlights and taillights.

Ford offers up to 11 different grille options and multiple wheel options in the six trims of the F-150. There is also a two-tone paint option that makes more use of the bottom gutter on the door.

Ford will continue to offer the F-150 with six trims (for now). At this stage, however, it’s too early to say what trim will get what equipment as standard. Here’s what we know, ahead of the truck’s Fall 2020 release.

The F-150 XL will continue to be the base model. It comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and a wider range of active safety equipment than the 2020 model.

It’s available in all three body styles, with a two-door variant starting at $ 28,940, excluding destination price.

The SuperCab and half-door twin cost $ 33,025, while the four-door SuperCrew retails for a starting price of $ 36,650. Grabbing the popular off-road FX4 package adds $ 1,005 to the price.

The F-150 Lariat is where owners are starting to get the fancier options. The Lariat model will remain the most versatile trim, with the most upholstery options and exterior trim options.

Pricing will likely start at $ 4695 for the SuperCab and $ 47,055 for the SuperCrew – like today’s Lariat, Ford won’t be offering this trim as a Regular Cab.

As for the powertrains, the Lariat comes standard with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 – the PowerBoost hybrid price, meanwhile, drops to $ 3,300.

The F-150 King Ranch is what happens if you ask for a truck with all leather. Perhaps the cabin’s most impressive finish, every possible surface appears to feature cowhide, with more than a few references to the eponymous trim ranch in Texas.

King Ranch was the first member of the F-150 line to limit buyers to the four-door SuperCrew trim and demanded at least $ 56,330 to get started.

At that price, you’ll get the standard 5.0-liter V8, while the price of the PowerBoost option drops again, to just $ 2,500 – the 2.7-liter EcoBoost from here.

Information from friends on the F150gen14 (dot) com forum published the following Ford F-150 Raptor 2022 rendering.

They claim the rendering is based on inside information and that this new truck will be available in the next 24 months as a 2022 model. This is not something we are officially waiting for information from Ford.

This rendering took the 2021 Ford F-150 new prototype styling and further extrapolated it with the touch of the Ford Raptor.

This means adding wide-bodied front and rear fenders, “FORD” Raptor signature grills, skid plates, and more.

Rendering is available in three different colors, but (I think) there is no sort of trim or ventilation on the hood.

If the next 3rd generation Raptor will be available as a 2022 model, does that mean no Raptor 2021 will be sold?

That is possible, but I think the 2nd generation Raptor will continue for 2021 with styles and features that are largely unchanged.

The new 2021 and/or Raptor 2022 trucks will likely get a spring around, as evidenced by the test mule seen a few months ago. Shocks to the FOX live valve performance are likely to continue to be offered.

2021 Ford F150 Engine Options

The 3.3-liter V-6 is the base engine of the 2022 F-150 and produces 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque – the same output as a 2020 track. It’s great for a 1985 pound maximum payload and can tow up to 8200 pounds.

The new EcoBoost V-6 2.7 liter truck also delivers the same power as the 2020 model, at 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, and can pull up to 10,100 pounds with a maximum payload of 2,480 pounds.

Both the 5.0 liter V-8 and 3.5 liters EcoBoost saw a slight increase in power. The 5.0-liter engine is good for an additional 5 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque over the 2020 model, at 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, and has a maximum payload of 3325 pounds with 13,000 pounds of towing capability.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost now produces 400 horsepower (up 25) and 500 lb-ft of torque (up 30) and can pull up to 14,000 pounds (previous year’s maximum 13,200 pounds) with a maximum payload of 3250 pounds.

The 3.0-liter Power Stroke V-6 diesel output remains the same at 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque and can pull up to 12,100 pounds with a max payload of 1,840 pounds.

The new PowerBoost V-6, which is equipped with a 35 kW electric motor powered by a 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, is the 2022 F-150’s most powerful so far (up to the electric model, that is) with 430 horsepower.

And 570 lb-ft of torque, and can tow up to 12,700 pounds with a maximum payload of 2,120 pounds.

We know the style won’t change drastically thanks to the leaked 3D model on the front, but we suspect the new Raptor will look as aggressive as its predecessor.

Detailed specifications are often the last thing we learned with a new tool. So far, we don’t have exact figures about the F-150 Raptor 2022.

What we can say is 450 hp and more than 510 lb-ft of torque over its predecessor in most departments, 0-60 mph under 5.1 seconds, and maximum winch capacity is over 8000 lbs.

The only figure that may not improve is the fuel economy rating: city 15 mpg, highway 18 mpg in the current model.

There is no official statement on pricing for the new Raptor, but the current generation SuperCab starts at $ 55,150 at destination cost and we expect the base price to remain roughly the same on the next-generation V-6 SuperCab.

Need 30 amps of 220 volts? Upgrade your PowerBoost truck to a 7.2 kW inverter. Can’t swing the price of a luxury hybrid? A 2.0-kW 110-volt inverter is offered on all but the base 3.3L V-6 and diesel.

It automatically starts and shuts down the engine as needed to power your device.

Chassis improvements include strengthening the frame to support track widening to just under 1 inch, increasing crane ratings, and accommodating the transmission and installation of a longer PowerBoost battery.

Increased rigidity improves the ride, as do better bushings where the cab is attached to the frame and switches to monotube shocks at higher trim levels.

The front stabilizer bar is now attached to the steering knuckle instead of the control arm for increased mechanical advantage, and composite leaf springs are replacing steel in certain low load applications.

The vacuum brake booster is removed for electrical assistance; improved rotors and calipers to handle higher crane ratings; and the F-150 gets an Adaptive Steering system from Super Duty, Edge, and more.

This places the motor and gear between the steering wheel and the column to reduce the amount of steering input required during low-speed maneuvers while eliminating the “jitters” that fast ratio steering may cause at road speeds.

Other new features that aim to get the job done more easily include a retractable shifter that when in Park, folds into the console allowing the center armrest to flip forward and form a continuous flat work surface.

Need a flat surface that you can see? With the tailgate step option, you now get a robust SMC composite tailgate surface that combines imperial and metric crossbar marks, a place to place your handheld while watching YouTube instructional videos, and two recesses for the C clamp to secure your workpiece to the tailgate.

Best of all, the two new fastening loops on the tailgate double as a bottle opener. The gate opening and closing power are also now available.

Joining Pro Trailer Backup Assist is a new Trailer Reverse Guidance system borrowed from Super Duty that uses trailer-mounted cameras and yaw sensors to train the driver while maneuvering manually.

The “most aerodynamic F-150 ever” gets a new active front air dam that retracts at low off-road speeds and drops 3.1 or 3.5 inches (2WD or 4WD models) at speeds over 40-45 mph.

The top surface of the closed rear door accentuates the spoiler’s shape better; there is an air deflector in front of the rear wheels; side mirrors are resized and shaped for optimal flow, and optimized C pillar shape.

The screen is bigger on all of the F-150s, with the base truck getting an optional 8-inch unit, while the 12-inch screen being an upgrade, plus hard buttons for audio and climate control. Two B&O Play audio upgrades are offered, with eight or 18 speakers.

Sync 4 is standard, as are Apple wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. A built-in 4G modem comes standard and allows over-the-air upgrades from most onboard systems.

At launch, Ford will take a page from Tesla’s bookselling hardware upgrades (higher quality exterior cameras and new driver monitoring sensors) for later activation of Active Drive Assist, Ford’s answer to the Cadillac Super Cruise and Tesla Autopilot, which is coming to market within 12 months and then only requires a software upgrade.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor will debut on February 3, 2021, at 11 a.m. EST, with the disclosure set to broadcast live on the company’s YouTube and Facebook accounts.

We’ll get full details and specific confirmations, as well as a better idea of when we can see this highly anticipated model at the dealership.
