2022 Ford Focus: New Ford Focus Specs, Price and Review

2022 Ford Focus Having become a respected nameplate in the Old Continent, the Focus cannot compete with many competitors in the compact segment. Adding insult to injury, Ford Europe bit the Focus RS early on due to low demand, high costs, and increasingly drastic carbon emission targets.

The popular Ford Focus family 2022 Ford Focus Hatchback will soon be updated, as this camouflaged prototype shows. Read on for full details on this revised five-door family car.

  • The new Ford Focus looks
  • Subtle revision to the design
  • New front and rear bumpers
  • An Interior upgrade is expected
  • New bigger touch screen
  • For sale late 2021 or early 2022

The new Ford Focus is an excellent all-around family 2022 Ford Focus Hatchback, but the VW Golf and this Vauxhall Astra alternative are about to receive some upgrades for 2022.

2022 Ford Focus: New Ford Focus 2022 Review

The Ford Focus is being groomed for a mid-life facelift to ensure it remains competitive against newer rivals including the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, and BMW 1 Series.

2022 Ford Focus

A lightly camouflaged prototype has been spotted being tested on public roads, previewing the design changes that will carry the Focus into 2022.

The most obvious change is a new front view that bucks the industry trend with a grille that is smaller than current cars. The headlights have been streamlined for a more aggressive look, and the greater camouflage around the bottom suggests we’ll be seeing new fog lamps and air intake designs as well.

A similar treatment will apply to the rear, where the car’s current brake light cluster will make way for a slimmer and heavier angle unit, while the trunk lid opening looks slightly raised to make the license plate more aligned with the rear windshield.

Red brake calipers and performance-style wheels give this test mule as an ST-Line car, but the full-fat ST – which features exhaust outlets on each side – would benefit from the same tweaks, but maybe a bit slower given the car’s staggered launch. in 2018 and 2019.

No details have emerged in terms of tweaks to the Focus powertrain, but the engine line-up was recently revamped to include a new 1.0-liter mild-hybrid petrol option in two conditions. That is expected to carry over with the only non-electric petrol option.

The Focus, unlike its Fiesta sibling, remains available with a choice of EcoBlue diesel engines: a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a larger 2.0-liter unit.

The Fiesta supermini recently became gasoline-only in the UK, with Ford citing “very, very low” diesel sales, but the fuel’s relatively continued popularity in the larger family hatchback segment suggests diesel can be maintained in at least one form for the renewed Focus.

The interior will likely see only minor changes, given that the current car shares most of its cabin design with stablemates Puma and the newer Kuga Focus, but improved connectivity and driver assistance could be delivered.

It’s not yet known whether the Focus will benefit from Ford’s new strategic partnership with Google, which will see all models sport an Android-based infotainment system from 2023 onwards.

2022 Focus RS: New Ford Focus RS 2022

Ford Focus RS 2022 Facelift Public Debut at the Zurich Car Show. Following the debut of the facelifted Fiesta, Ford also gave Focus a substantial update for the 2022 model year in Europe. The updates are not limited to the exterior but are also seen in the cabin area.

While we’ve covered all of those changes when it debuted, Focus has never revealed itself in person in public.

However, the wait is over. Seen at this year’s Zurich Car Show, the refreshed hatchback/wagon greeted the public for the first time.

If you’re curious about how the Focus update looks with its metal skin, the video tutorial we’ve embedded at the top of this page should give you ample impressions.

Significant changes have been seen in Focus’s updated front fascia, especially in a series of updates to its LED lighting. Ford doesn’t use fog lamps completely, giving this compact car a cleaner look.

At the back, the new facelifted Focus gets darker taillights. Not only that, but the Focus ST also gets a refresh for the 2022 model year, with new wheel designs and Mean Green paint from the Fiesta ST.

The performance version is still offered in hatchback and wagon body styles. Turning inward, the Ford Focus gets a larger 13.2-inch touchscreen with support for over-the-air (OTA) updates.

The car also has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, while the main operating system has been upgraded to Ford’s latest SYNC 4. The Ford Performance seat made its debut in the facelifted Focus ST.

Speaking of powertrain, Ford seems to have removed the diesel engine option from the Focus ST lineup. It is unclear whether the unit will be reintroduced in the future.

One thing is for sure, for now, 2022 Ford Focus RS buyers who will opt for the performance version will have to settle for a 2.3-liter turbocharged petrol powerplant with 280 horsepower. That figure is the same as the previous version, which means the top speed is still around 155 miles/hour (250 km/h).

2022 Ford Focus News

Blue Oval intended to export the Focus Active from China to the United States to capitalize on the SUV craze, but the plan fell through due to the Trump administration’s trade tussle with the People’s Republic. Unfortunately, the current US lineup consists of trucks, utility vehicles, and one passenger car (!!!) in the form of a Mustang.

While the Focus isn’t as profitable as crossovers and SUVs for Ford Motor Company, the Dearborn-based automaker isn’t ready to leave this nameplate in the EU and UK.

Expected to be a 2022 model, a mid-cycle refresh has been spied on German roads with slimmer taillights, sharper headlights and modern-looking LED daytime running lights.

The front bumper and emergency grille are complemented by a rear bumper that may seem familiar to older model customers, but that’s only natural as Ford puts the finishing touches on the compact hatchback.

As usual, the Focus lineup will consist of two more body styles disguised as station wagons and sedans. Only the five-door variant will be available with the Active package which excludes all-wheel drive.

As far as engine options are concerned, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost Hybrid is likely to prove itself as the most popular thanks to its relatively good performance, fuel economy and manufacturing costs.

The 1.5-liter EcoBoost which also features a three-cylinder and turbocharger is expected to continue, and that will also be the fate of the 1.5-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

Performance-oriented customers will be treated to a 2.0-liter EcoBlue and a 2.3-liter EcoBoost in the Focus ST, which leaves a lot to be desired compared to segment competitors. In Germany, for example, the faster model starts at €36,100, while the Hyundai i30 N costs €34,300.

2022 Ford Focus Design

Despite the disguise, you can see a few things about this prototype that look different from the current Ford Focus. The most notable changes are the revamped front so that it appears to have a smaller front grille, slimmer headlights, and redesigned air intakes that give the car a more aggressive look.

At the back looks not changed too much. Sharper, slimmer tail lights are the most obvious difference and the boot lid appears to have been tweaked a bit too.

Ford Focus Facelift 2022

Ford Focus 2022 Facelift 2022 Ford Focus ST Facelift Spies Bright Green Color As Nod To Ford Focus RS 2022 Mk2. We also have a new spy shot of the regular Focus riding on majestic steel wheels.

The 2022 Focus was phased out in North America a few years ago, but the rest of the world is receiving a fourth generation that is still (relatively) strong in an SUV-hungry market. The MK4 came out a little over four years ago, and it’s almost time for the Blue Oval to give its compact car lineup a proverbial nip and tuck.

While the new RS has been sidelined due to increasingly stringent emissions regulations in Europe, we can take comfort from knowing the ST will be in the army over the next few years.

As evidenced in a series of new spy shots depicting the thin-covered prototype, it looks like the facelifted version will get a bright green paint job. If the shadow looks familiar, it’s because the Focus RS Mk2 is offered in a similar hue, dubbed Ultimate Green.

It will be interesting to see if the new color will become a permanent color or will be ordered for a limited special edition. By the way, Ford UK just launched the Focus ST Edition with various mechanical upgrades, but without the power boost for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost, which still makes 280 hp (209 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft).

Those who need more oomph can turn to specialist Ford tuners like Mountune, which can produce up to 360 hp and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).

In addition to the eye-catching paintwork, the 2022 Focus ST appears to be hiding the headlights which have been slightly updated with new U-shaped LED daytime running lights. The cluster looks narrower than before, although the camouflage can play tricks on us. At the rear, the taillights have the same shape, but with slightly updated graphics.

Our spies also sent us new photos of the normal Focus, riding on tiny steel wheels without hubcaps. It has a camo in the exact same area as the ST while partially revealing a new front grille design with broken horizontal slats rather than a continuous line as is the case with the current non-ST Focus.

The single exhaust tip further illustrates it’s not a hot version, as does the less daring roof spoiler.

The facelift should include all versions of the Focus, meaning the hatchback, sedan, and wagon body styles will be updated mid-cycle, along with the rugged Active version and the diesel-fueled ST hatch/wagon duo.

We won’t be holding our breath for the Focus’s return in the US where the Maverick compact pickup truck is now considered an indirect replacement.

Ford Focus RS 2022

Much has been said about the fourth-gen Ford Focus RS that has yet to be revealed, with new reports claiming that it has been canceled, but is it really happening?

According to Caradisiac, the next Focus RS program has been discontinued due to the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emission target across the EU fleet of 95 grams per kilometer, which will start next year. Suspicious source? Ford himself.

However, CarsGuide understands that news of the new Focus RS’s death is premature, as there is still a chance that it will come true.

It is important to note that the second and third-generation models were revealed approximately four and five years after their unprofitable counterparts, respectively.

So since the fourth-gen Focus debuted in April 2018, its RS flagship could show up in the first half of 2022, if not 2023, which means Ford still has time.

Like the previous two generations, the next Focus RS could launch after the midlife facelift of its non-working counterparts, but it all depends on Ford working profitably to minimize model pollution.

Autocar reported in April 2018 that the new Focus RS would retain the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-gasoline four-cylinder engine from the Mustang, but add a 48V mild-hybrid system that reduces emissions.

Two months ago, Autocar released another report, citing a senior Ford executive who claimed “light hybrids weren’t enough,” with a high-performance version of the Escape SUV’s mid-size plug-in hybrid powertrain configured for the next Focus RS.

When contacted by CarsGuide, a Ford Australia spokesperson said: “It is too early to speculate on future plans for the RS.”

However, they added that “the C2 platform underpinning the next-generation Focus features a state-of-the-art, technology-packed architecture that enables our Focus to offer a range of efficient powertrains.”

Reading between the lines, it looks like the new Focus RS is still in development, for now, and is trying to snatch the crown from the Mercedes-AMG A45 S.Ford Focus RS 2022

Ford Focus 2022 Interior

2022 Ford Focus Interior You can expect Ford to change a few things about the Focus’s interior as well, including some new upholstery options, perhaps a new steering wheel and an upgraded and updated infotainment system.

The new Volkswagen Golf comes with one of the most high-tech infotainment systems of any family hatchback, it’s likely Ford will revamp the Focus touchscreen in response. Indeed, you can see a larger infotainment display mounted on the dashboard of this prototype car.

Ford Focus 2022 Engine

There’s no information to suggest that Ford will change the current Focus engine line-up, so options will likely include a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol mild-hybrid unit with either 125hp or 155hp, and a 2.3-liter four-cylinder for the hot-hatch ST model. , with 280hp.

Expect the diesel options to stay the same, with a choice of two four-cylinder engines – a 1.5-liter engine with 120hp, and a 2.0-liter unit with a choice of 150hp or 190hp.

2022 Ford Focus Australia

Ford Focus 2022 Facelift You’re looking at the facelifted 2022 Ford Focus – and if you ignore the wagon part, it should be coming to Australia. The facelifted Focus appears to have a slimmer grille than the current model, with horizontal chrome slats.

The headlights also look slimmer than current cars. Previous spy photos also revealed that it will feature a new LED daytime running light sign. The new running light is more similar to the mid-sized Mondeo, which was dropped from the Australian line-up last year.

Expect the bumper to also look different from the current car. There are restyled tail lights at the rear, indicating that the hatchback will also receive restyled taillights.

Inside, it looks like there’s a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The current car has an 8.0-inch unit. While a facelift is still a long way off, Ford has made some changes to the Focus line in Australia for 2021. The ST now has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, although it no longer has blind-spot monitoring and rear traffic alerts.

The ST-Line adopts an independent rear suspension as the rest of the range endures, while front parking sensors and FordPassConnect connectivity are standard across the entire range. You can read more about the 2021 range in our pricing and specs article.

Unfortunately, the wagon is not currently offered Down Under. After skipping the wagon body style for the first three generations of Focus, Ford Australia finally introduced it to the current generation. Available only in ST-Line trim, the wagon was discontinued last year after less than two years on the market.

It was part of the Focus range cut that also meant the end of the Trend and Titanium hatchbacks. The Focus range continues to live in the shadow of its competitors. In the first two months of this year, Ford has sold 233 Focus models including the sporty ST with a total market share of 1.4 percent.

That’s barely more than the entire Subaru WRX lineup (214.1.3 percent) and well below the regular Impreza (604.3.5 percent), let alone top-selling models like the Hyundai i30 and Toyota Corolla.

Other recently redesigned Ford products performed better in their respective segments, such as the Puma (441.5.7 percent share) and Escape (580.2.4 percent).

2022 Ford Focus Hybrid

Ford Focus 2022 Digital artist KDesign AG has created a mockup of the 2022 Ford Focus look, although testing of a prototype seen in Europe suggests Ford designers are planning soft updates to the bumper, fenders, and popular B-segment headlights that are also available. in the ‘Active’ variant spawned with a cross-style element.

In June last year, the Ford Focus lineup underwent a significant update in the European market with the introduction of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with Ford Hazard Warning, and more importantly, the EcoBoost Hybrid electrified powertrain equipped with an integrated belt-driven starter generator. . and an air-cooled 48V lithium-ion battery pack under the front passenger seat.

The EcoBoost Hybrid is exclusive to the 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine but is available in two conditions – 125 PS and 155 PS. The 125 PS variant emits 114 gm/km CO2 while the 155 PS emits 2gm/km more (WLTP cycle); both are only available with the 6-speed MT.

With the introduction of the 2022 Ford Focus, Blue Oval will leverage hybrid technology to boost sales of the Focus that lags behind its main competitors, the VW Golf and Skoda Octavia, according to CarSalesBase.com.

For the year ending 2020, Ford saw around 173,000 Focus units reach European homes while Volkswagen outperformed America with 285,000 Golf units and 180,000 units of the Skoda Octavia group company sharing its platform and parts with the Golf.

It should be noted that while the ‘greenest’ Focus is only available as an MHEV, rivals VW and Skoda offer the Golf and Octavia in plug-in hybrid variants, respectively, and in sporty GTE and vRS variants in addition to the plain-Jane variant. But Ford offers the performance of the Focus ST variant strictly without any electrification.

While the 2022 Ford Focus is unlikely to see the inclusion of a PHEV, the next-generation model that will arrive in the middle of the decade should address this shortcoming in line with Ford’s announcement to make all of its passenger vehicles in Europe zero-emissions (electric) capable. or PHEV) by mid-2026, and switch to all-electric by 2030.

2022 Ford Focus Australian Prices

Ford Australia has announced it will bring its new premium class Focus ST hot hatch to Australia in the fourth quarter of this year for $47,990, before on-road costs.

Called the Focus ST-3, the premium class adds features such as a panoramic glass roof and Ford trick headlights that use the camera to see the road ahead and rotate the globe to illuminate the areas where it is needed most.

The lighting system also shapes the beam differently depending on the situation, such as widening its focus when stopped at an intersection.

Also included are heated and electric Recaro seats with lumbar support up front, along with a heads-up display for the driver and a 10-speaker B&O premium sound system with a subwoofer for everyone.

The Focus ST-3 will be limited to 200 units in Australia and will only be available with a seven-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Buyers will pay an additional $3,300 for the regular ST, now known as the ST-1, which is priced at $44,690 for a choice of six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

Carrying on is the Mustang’s turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 206kW of power and 420Nm of torque.

Helping the Focus ST through corners is an electronic limited-slip differential positioned between the front wheels, which together with the independent rear suspension helps it lower power to the ground effectively.

While the upgraded Focus ST-3 remains essentially the same on the outside, buyers will still be paying attention to the sequential LED indicators. Premium paint is also available for an additional $650.

Ford says those interested in purchasing the Focus ST-3 prior to its arrival should speak to their local dealer.
