For 2025, the fifth-generation big hauler, which has been around since 1996 and challenges the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, has been completely redesigned and offers new versatility with the addition of the first-ever Expedition Tremor off-road SUV trim.
Ford executives argue that today’s Expedition buyers are young Millennials who frequently travel with their families. And because they are in the lifestyle phase, they are looking for adventure and are more likely to pull up and leave the curb.
To meet these needs, Ford designed the 2025 Expedition from the start to accommodate the off-road Tremor trim with larger wheels and better ground clearance.
2025 Ford Expedition Review
The 2025 Ford Expedition is also revised for 2025. The base engine gets a mild increase to 400 hp 480 lb-ft, while the high-output engine maintains its 440 hp rating.
This model has a new 24-inch infotainment screen on every trim and a split-folding rear door that opens to give you a seat. The new 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor trim adds 33-inch all-terrain tires, a retuned suspension, and 10.6 inches of ground clearance. It also comes standard with the higher-output engine.
Ford’s 2025 Ford Expedition full-size SUV can handle any job, including off-roading and moderate-difficulty hauling, with a maximum towing capacity of 9,600 pounds. The all-new 2025 Ford Expedition has a smooth ride, but vague steering makes it ride like a pickup truck for our liking.
However, there’s no shortage of interior space, especially with the long-wheelbase Expedition Max, which has extra length, and either size can accommodate up to eight people. The Expedition’s sole powertrain, a twin-turbo V-6, is muscular, with output ranging from 400 to 440 horsepower depending on trim.
The 2025 Ford Expedition’s late-model competitors, including the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, can’t tow as much as the Ford. Still, they have more communicative steering and offer a wider range of powertrains, including a diesel option.

Over the past two decades, the Ford Expedition has been the SUV equivalent of the wildly popular F-150 pickup. While the full-size car still has three rows of seats and body-on-frame construction, it will get a significant makeover in 2025, giving it a fresh look inside and out and innovative new features.

2025 Ford Expedition Redesign
Ford has just overhauled the Expedition for 2025. Now entering its fifth generation, this full-size family vehicle has many improvements that make it more capable of hauling cargo and passengers.
Changes made to all Expeditions include an interior overhaul inspired by the new Lincoln Navigator. Ford went with a 24-inch horizontal screen in the dash, using the remaining space for the optional Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The exterior also gets a styling overhaul with a fresh design and a cool feature taking a comeback: split rear doors. It is power-operated and features a seat back that doubles as a table. It weighs 500 pounds, making it the perfect accessory for tailgating parties.
Despite the changes, the dimensions remain unchanged. However, ample interior space allows buyers to compare it to the updated 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban.
The machine is a carry-over. All Expeditions rely on a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. It drives the rear wheels or all four wheels via a ten-speed automatic.
Now that the 2025 Ford Expedition configurator is live, we can confirm pricing on the shortened trim list, build a few models, and analyze the final results.
What’s New
Ford authorities have refreshed the Expedition lineup for 2025. New front and rear lights, a revised grille, and new wheel designs give the SUV a new look. There’s a new way to access the two-piece opening cargo area with an upper liftgate and lower tailgate, as found on the updated Lincoln Navigator.
Updates are on the inside; look for a new two-level screen setup. A large infotainment screen sits in the usual center location, while a wider unit above displays gauges and additional information. A Tremor trim with similar dirt-slinging equipment has replaced last year’s off-road-ready Expedition Timberline.
More Screen Acreage, Sliding Console
Ford authorities have wholly reinvented the Expedition’s dashboard with a, you guessed it, more average screen. Previously, this full-size SUV was offered with a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster and a 15.5-inch vertically oriented touchscreen.
These have been replaced by a new 24.0-inch unit mounted on top of the dash at the base of the windshield. Ford says this helps drivers keep their eyes on the road when looking at instruments or map info that appears on the right side. To prevent hindering the viewing experience, the top of the Expedition’s steering wheel has been sawed off, and the flat bottom creates a “squirrel” shape.
The rest of the redesigned dashboard has a more rounded shape with an interesting mix of materials, particularly the fabric top that hides the sound system speakers. In the center of the dash is a 13.2-inch touchscreen, the centerpiece of the new Ford Digital Experience infotainment system.
It debuts on the 2025 Explorer and features Google-based software, meaning the voice assistant is powered by Google but can also be used by Amazon Alexa. Those with Apple devices needn’t worry, as wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are still standard.
The introduction of the Ford Connectivity package also brings built-in access to Google Maps, the Google Play app store, and Wi-Fi hotspots. New Expedition customers can get it for a one-time fee or choose a one-year free trial and decide whether to pay for an annual subscription.
There’s a similar strategy for those who want BlueCruise’s hands-free driving mode, although there’s a 90-day trial before it’s available monthly or annually. The latest version of Ford’s SAE Level 2 system has improved capabilities and is now available on more Expedition models than just the top-spec Platinum.
The new 2025 Ford Expedition also offers a center console that slides back about eight inches to reveal space for personal items like a wallet or hiding contraband from the police. The GMC Yukon has a similar feature, but it’s still valid.
Ford also created mounts behind the front headrests, allowing small devices like smartphones and tablets to face second-row passengers safely. A 40/20/40 split-folding bench can be opened in the back row to accommodate long items such as skis or wood. The extended Expedition Max provides 36 cubic feet of cargo area behind the third row, while the shorter version has 22 cubes.
First Ford Expedition Tremor
Ford added the four-wheel-drive Tremor because off-road trims had become popular on its F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks, and the automaker wanted the Expedition to have the same capabilities. The first Expedition Tremor was equipped with a 440 hp high-performance 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires from the F-150, and 10.6 inches of ground clearance.
“When we decided we needed Tremor, it set the engineering process in motion,” says chief engineer Adrian Aguirre. Large wheels and drive height prompted changes, including a different frame and suspension strengthening. The Tremor takes the front skid plate and running boards from the F-150 Raptor, has an electronic locking differential, auxiliary off-road lights integrated into the grille, underbody protection, and a Rock Crawl drive mode. Drivers can use Trail Turn Assist Trail 1-Pedal drive and a dual-speed transfer case on the trail.
The interior is black with orange stitching, speckled trim, and Tremor badging on the seats. Aguirre wouldn’t reveal Tremor’s estimated acceptance rate, but he thinks it will succeed.
Old and New on the 2025 Expedition
The Expedition will be offered in the same trim levels as the Explorer: base Active (replaces STX and XLT), Platinum (replaces Limited), Tremor, and King Ranch.
The dimensions of the 2025 Ford Expedition and long-wheelbase Expedition Max are essentially the same as the previous models, so they still fit in the garage, but there’s 13 percent more cargo space in the third row.
The new glowing grille looks like a giant Cheshire cat grinning at you. The presence of this SUV is reinforced with 24-inch alloy wheels on the Platinum trim. For easier entry and exit, there is a retractable running board. Inside, there’s rich leather, a nice use of wood and industrial metal trim, and a squirrel-shaped steering wheel.
Split Gate and Other Innovations
The Expedition takes tailgating to the next level with the first split gate in the segment (the 2025 Lincoln Navigator also offers it in the full-size luxury SUV segment). The top part lifts like a traditional trunk door, while the bottom part can be folded like the rear door on a pickup.
The rear doors act as a giant lip to keep things from rolling over, and because they move the edges further back, this design increases rear cargo space. A panel has legs to be mounted as a table or flipped as a seat back for more comfortable rear travel. This is enhanced by lights embedded in the roof for 360-degree zone lighting and a charging port. Split gates are powered and standard on all trims.
To make the space more functional, the third row has a 40/20/40 folding bench seat that allows long items like skis to fit in the middle as if it were a six-passenger vehicle (if the second row has captain’s chairs or a 40 split bench seat /20/40, this tunnel extends forward).
The middle section can be folded at the push of a button in the cargo area. An added advantage is that it can separate children, which may bring more peace of mind on long car trips.
Movable Center Console
Other extraordinary innovations on the 2025 Ford Expedition include a powered center console and flexible and removable storage. Press a button, and the console moves back about eight inches so second-row passengers can grab items from inside. It’s easier to reach cup holders and audio and climate controls while providing another barrier between kids in the back seat.
Moving the bin to the back will reveal the place for a purse or other large items. Return the trash can to its original position, and the items will be safely hidden from view. When the car is turned off, the console will not move so that no one can steal valuables underneath.
While the Navigator shares some of the Expedition’s cool features, the movable center console is unique to Ford, and the two SUVs also have different screens.
For second-row passengers, there are USB outlets on the back of the front seat headrests and clips to hold devices like phones and tablets to stream your content (device holders won’t be available until summer 2025).
Second-row passengers have cup holders, a clock, and control screens for information and climate control. They also get two map pockets on each front seatback for attaching phones, books, or other thin items.
The second-row seats fold almost flat, creating 63.5 cubic feet of cargo space. A button in the cargo area raises and lowers the cargo area.
Infotainment Upgrade
SA’s new system has replaced sync, and the scroll end is new. The driver’s 24.0-inch display is mounted facing the windshield for better road monitoring.
The 13.2-inch center touchscreen is a landscape-oriented tablet that rests against the front of the dashboard. There is no passenger screen. The climate controls are on the screen but always displayed. The center console has a slanted charging pad for phones.
Ford’s Connectivity Package bundles WiFi for up to 10 devices, with a range of up to 50 feet outside the vehicle; Google Play for apps, music, and games; and Google Maps, but it still supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
On the 2025 Ford Expedition, the screen will display directions on the driver’s display while keeping the map on the center screen. The Expedition comes with a free Ford Connectivity Plan for one year, after which you can subscribe annually.
Powertrain Unchanged
It is powered by a 3.5 liter V-6 Ecoboost twin-turbo engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Power is unchanged at 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, or upgraded to the high-output variant for 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. A new turbocharger and exhaust should lower emissions, but fuel economy is unchanged and not particularly impressive.
The previous generation had a lot in common with the F-150 full-size pickup. This generation still uses the ST3 truck platform, but the team says they can do more with it. The new front and rear suspension is expected to improve ride quality and contribute to a quieter cabin.
Tremor adds off-road capability
Ford offers Tremor variants on other truck and SUV models, so it makes sense for the Expedition to get something similar. After all, Ford has to have something to compete with the Tahoe Z71s and Sequoia TRD Pros.
The Expedition Tremor is available with a short or long-wheelbase body and rides on 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires. It has 10.6 inches of ground clearance, a retuned suspension, additional off-road lights, and metal underbody protection.
It also comes with Ford’s Trail Turn Assist, which helps with maneuverability, and Trail 1-Pedal, similar to off-road adaptive cruise control.
2025 Ford Expedition Interior
2025 Ford Expedition Materials The Expedition’s cabin interior and trim pieces get more attractive from model to model, with the Platinum trim featuring rich leather upholstery and massaging front seats.
The standard-size 2025 Ford Expedition and the long-wheelbase 2025 Ford Expedition Max have roomy interiors; unlike some rivals, the third row won’t torture adults.
A three-seat bench is standard for the second row, but you can specify a pair of captain’s chairs. The Max also offers unbeatable interior cubby storage.
Every model has a folding third row controlled from the cargo area or rear seats. The second and third rows can be folded flat to create a flat floor, making it easier to load items.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All 2025 Ford Expedition models have a 24.0-inch dash display that functions as a large digital gauge cluster and infotainment readout. Smaller split screens are located closer to the driver and front seat passenger and provide access to the infotainment interface.
The system is built on Google software and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air update capability, and the ability to watch movies and surf the web while parked. Onboard Wi-Fi is also included.
2025 Ford Expedition Engine
Motivating the Expedition is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine and responsive 10-speed automatic transmission combined with rear or four-wheel drive. The standard engine produces 400 hp. A higher output version is available that increases power to 440 horsepower.
All 2025 Ford Expedition models use independent rear suspension. Although passengers were comfortable with the smooth ride, the driver was penalized for imprecise handling and steering feel.
Off-road-focused Tremor models get a slightly taller suspension system, underbody-protecting skid plates, and unique 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 33.0-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires.
Ford authorities also equipped this adventurous trim with a Rock Crawl driving mode and handy off-road features, including a cruise control system to help maintain speed when descending steep hills and a Trail Turn Assist feature that allows swinging the rear end when navigating narrow roads.
This system applies the brakes to the inside rear wheel at sharp turns and slow speeds when the vehicle is in four-wheel drive mode and on soft surfaces.
Performance
The first-ever Expedition TREMOR SUV offers a superior off-road experience for those looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure. Intelligent 4WD with a Terrain Management System is built to conquer various terrains, including an exclusive Rock Crawl mode that makes maneuvering on challenging surfaces even more straightforward.
While the Ford Split Gate adds multi-functionality to the rear gate for effortless loading of kayaks, paddle boards, and other adventure gear, the available Cargo Tailgate Manager triples as a kickstand, shelf, or even table, ideal for tailgates or picnics.
Flexible Powered console models slide forward to create more storage or back for better access to the second row, ensuring flexibility when needed.
The 360-degree Zone Lighting available on select models illuminates your surroundings, making it easy to unpack or set up camp even after the sun goes down.
The 2025 Ford Expedition only has a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission producing 400 hp. The higher-output version, standard on the Tremor, makes 440 hp. The maximum towing capacity is 9,600 pounds, while the Expedition Max is 9,000 pounds.

0–60 MPH
At our test track, the Expedition successfully sprinted to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds, besting the V-8-powered Chevy Tahoe Z71 by 2.4 seconds; stealth models with the higher-output V-6 shaved 0.2 seconds off that time.
2025 Ford Expedition Payload
The Expedition can tow up to 9,600 pounds, while the extended Expedition Max rating is limited to 9,000 pounds. Maximum towing capacity is 9,600 pounds, but the limit for trailers without a load distribution hitch increases from 5,000 to 7,000 pounds. The SUV also gets the Tow Trailer Assist, Trailer Backup Assist, and Trailer Sway Control systems from the F-150.
The 2025 Expedition has BlueCruise 1.4, the latest version of Ford’s hands-free driving assistance technology with automatic lane change and in-lane repositioning, which means moving the vehicle sideways when a car is in an adjacent lane. BlueCruise will be available for all but the lower-level active base trim.
This is standard on some trims but can also be purchased at the time of sale or added as an annual subscription package. If neither is selected, Expeditions comes with a 90-day free trial followed by a monthly or a yearly subscription option.
2025 Ford Expedition MPG
The rear-wheel-drive Expedition is EPA-estimated at up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Four-wheel drive models are rated at an estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the road. The Expedition and Expedition Max we tested on a 75 mph fuel economy route, which is part of our extensive test series, failed to hit those numbers, returning 20 mpg.
2025 Ford Expedition Model
MAX Active
It’s not just the XL that’s gone; the XLT has also disappeared. The 2025 Ford Expedition gets new names for some trim levels while retaining two familiar ones. Active is now at the bottom of the list, where Expedition has the most value.
The Active includes a complete list of standard features, such as a 10-way power driver’s seat, an 8-way passenger seat, alloy wheels, those above 24-inch horizontal screen and the 13.2-inch center touchscreen that controls it, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and trailer back-up assist.
Selecting the MAX will extend the Expedition by 12 inches, up to 222 inches from tip to tip. This was my first option, as prices start at $63,695. Going more significant is a relatively small price for the extra $3,000.
Another option I chose was the 20-inch two-tone rims instead of the standard 18-inch rims. This requires you to select the Active Touring Edition Equipment Group, a $4,215 package with more features.
Key highlights include a panoramic sunroof with power sunshade, wireless charging pad, keyless entry on all doors, movable center console, rain-sensing wipers, heated folding mirrors, tilt-telescopic steering wheel with memory and heat functions, and front seats heated with upgraded seats.
Although the Active offers seven paint colors, the basic palette is white, silver, and black, so that I wouldn’t charge for the paint. The Expedition MAX Active totaled $70,910.
King Ranch
Now that we’ve explored the basic model let’s look at the other end of the spectrum. The King Ranch is a high-end model; wow, get ready to spend a lot of bronze on it.
Fords of the past usually gave subtle cues that you were driving a King Ranch other than brown leather seats. That’s not the case here. The Expedition nets exterior trim accents and includes 22-inch wheels regardless of paint color.
In this case, we’re retaining the Oxford White paint of the MAX Active version, as every Expedition has a blacked-out top liftgate, regardless of trim. As expected, the interior is covered in premium Del Rio leather seating surfaces and finished in brown.
The second-row captain’s chairs fold down. The Bang & Olufsen Unleashed stereo, with a 22-speaker and single subwoofer setup, spans all three rows.
Ford continuous damping suspension, BlueCruise hands-free for one year, wireless connectivity for one year, such as 5G hotspot, a suite of advanced active safety features known as Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0, heavy-duty towing package, deployable running boards, zone lighting interior, and flexible seating for the third row is also included. Four-wheel drive is standard.
Considering this is already the highest trim available, accessories are the only remaining options besides paint. I installed the black bars for $260, the Cargo Protection package for $490, the engine block heater for $190, and the Cargo Area Platform cover for $690.
While it’s an option, I went with the shorter Expedition King Ranch because I can’t imagine its customers would want kids tracking muddy soccer cleats over rich leather ones. Overall, the King Ranch buildings cost $87,200.
Tremor
Saving the best for last, the 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor is a new trim for this model year that is only available in standard form and not as a MAX variant.
But that’s okay because the Tremor is resurrected for off-road events with a unique fascia. In addition to the expanded color palette, the Expedition Tremor also sports yellow accents on the wheels and front bumper, including the tow hook. The grille houses additional lights, while skid plates protect the front axle, transfer case,e, and fuel tank. Additionally, the Tremor rides on 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires to complement its 10.6-inch ground clearance.
Here’s a rule of thumb: off-road models must offer a green paint option. The Tremor Expedition doesn’t disappoint, dressed in Wild Green to match the black leather interior. Comfortable interior features include power-adjustable pedals with memory, heated seats for the first and second rows, and a power center console for easier second-row access.
The Tremor uses a High-Output variant of the 3.5-liter engine, boosting power to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. This should bode well, as should the 3.73 electronic locking differential and a unique driving mode system twitha rock crawling feature. A trail control system is also included with turn assist, one-pedal drive, and four-wheel drive as standard.
In addition to the Wild Green paint, which doesn’t cost extra, I outfitted the Tremor with accessories I thought would be helpful for wilderness adventures. I chose the roof bars again for $260, the Underbody Shield for $425, the console safe for $360, and the Ford label safety equipment for $60. The Bang & Olufsen system, even with just ten speakers, won’t do any harm if you’re trying to do a log obstacle course.
Looking at the upside, it’s not much cheaper than the 2025 King Ranch. While both represent high-end lineups, they’re very different. My dream 2025 Expedition Tremor came in at $84,725.

Debuting last month, the 2025 Ford Expedition overhauls the full-size SUV with fresh styling inside and out. Since package availability depends on trim level, let’s look at the 2025 Ford Expedition lineup. The Active trim is the base model, followed by the Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch. Now, let’s see what’s in each package.
Connectivity Package
The Connectivity Package (option code 65B) is free for one year with the purchase of the 2025 Ford Expedition Active, Tremor, Platinum, and King Ranch. Those wanting longer can pay a one-time fee of $745 when ordering the SUV.
It will remain active for at least seven years on 2025 Ford Expedition vehicles and cannot be transferred to another VIN. If the service is available, no additional subscription purchases are required after the seven years to maintain connectivity.
The Connectivity Package includes the following:

Note that this package has the Ultimate Platinum Package (option code 17A) and the Stealth Performance Package (19B). The 22-inch Ebony Bright Machined Face Aluminum rims with P275/50R22 A/S BSW tires are replaced with the respective rims from these two packages.
Stealth Appearance Package
Also offered on the 2025 Ford Expedition Platinum, the Stealth Appearance Package (option code 60D) is a $3,570 standalone option for the full-size SUV. It requires Black Onyx interior trim (option code EH) and cannot be added to the Ultimate Platinum Package. The contents are as follows:

2025 Ford Expedition Release Date
Ford hasn’t released full pricing for the 2025 Expedition, but the base model will start at $63,695. Order books will open later this month on October 24, and the first models will reach dealers next spring.

Designers replaced the C-bracket lights with smaller units that flow into the grille. Tapered daytime running lights sit between the new headlights and extend below the grille.
The rear of the 2025 Ford Expedition will have new taillights with updated graphics and a new bumper, while the Expedition will probably get a split-opening tailgate. Other changes will include new wheel designs, unique trim options, and possibly some new exterior colors.
Although this is not confirmed, the 2025 Ford Expedition may feature a redesign that resembles the recently redesigned F-150 pickup truck. While there isn’t much information about the next Expedition, there are some suggestions about what we might expect from the upgrades, such as a revised interior and 24-inch alloy wheels.
Of course, it doesn’t stop here. Exterior changes are also in the works, and based on the amount of camouflage seen on previously spotted prototypes, the front and rear will be significantly changed.
Citing information from Ford Authority (FA), the rear of the redesigned Expedition will feature improvements similar to those found on the Range Rover.
If we mean the recently redesigned Range Rover, we probably mean the rear lights and the connecting tissue between them. Based on what we’ve seen, the Expedition will have more vertically oriented taillights.
Additionally, the lighting will extend horizontally from the lights to the tailgate, although it’s unclear whether the lighting will be connected on both sides. The look will likely be similar to the 2024 Ford Explorer’s liftgate, though with a little more attention to the Expedition logo and surrounding area, as seen on the Range Rover.
It’s also likely that the section above the license plate will be painted black, as indicated by a gap in the camouflage near the Expedition’s driver’s side taillight.
New Ford Expedition 2025
The existing Ford Expedition model comes standard with various tech features, including a 12-inch touchscreen, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB ports, and six audio speakers.
Upgrades to a 15.5-inch touchscreen, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, a wireless charging pad, and a satellite radio are also available. Given that the current Expedition already features Ford’s best tech offerings, it is unlikely that any new tech features will be added to the 2025 model.
According to rumors, the 2025 Ford Expedition may receive a hybrid powertrain for its redesign, possibly based on the F-150 Hybrid’s engine. This engine incorporates a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine and an electric motor, generating 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque.

However, the Expedition is also expected to continue to be offered with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine in various tunings, ranging from 380 hp to 440 hp.

Ford’s full-size SUV has been around in its current form since 2018. Having not been updated since a mid-cycle refresh in 2022, the Blue Oval brand has decided 2025 is the right time for the Expedition to receive its next comprehensive overhaul.
In March, our covert photographers observed a heavily camouflaged 2025 Expedition. However, most camouflage has been removed, and we have our first glimpse of the updated SUV.
The 2025 Ford Expedition SUV was observed traveling on a set of 24-inch wheels, which is the first time the Expedition has been offered with wheels of that size. The front fascia is entirely new and features a more uncomplicated appearance. Sleek new headlamps flank a redesigned grille.
The new headlights continue to complement the C-shaped running lights, although they are now split between two housings instead of one unit as on the old vehicle.
Our latest set of spy photos also shows the updated taillights. The new lamp looks taller than the old lamp. Unlike the previous version, which cut sharply into the Expedition’s body, these new lights look slimmer.
The divided rear door is the most significant development in the 2025 Ford Expedition. Although there is no confirmation, a diligent observer will detect a hard crease beneath the camouflage that implies a divided rear door design. If the speculations are accurate, the Expedition will be among the SUVs that share a similar design with the BMW X5 and Land Rover Range Rover.
Inside the 2025 Expedition, images from these spy photographers confirm the addition of the Lincoln Nautilus’ large 48.0-inch screen spanning the dashboard. As with the Nautilus, we don’t expect the top screen to be a touchscreen. The display will be controlled via a smaller 11.1-inch infotainment touchscreen mounted in the dashboard’s center.
As for what our photographers couldn’t see, we expect the 2025 Ford Expedition to stick with its current twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6. The base model makes 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, but upgrading to the Limited increases those numbers to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The new 2025 Expedition lineup could add a hybrid powertrain, possibly from the 430-hp V-6 hybrid found in the 2024 F-150.

The 2025 Ford Expedition will introduce a redesign to the full-size SUV, and Ford Authority (FA) has been keeping an eye on it since we first saw a prototype being tested in May 2023. So far, the Blue Oval has been keeping details about the upcoming Expedition under wraps.
First, the 2025 Ford Expedition greets the world with a redesigned front fascia. It’s slightly different from the current Expedition but similar to the 2024 Ford F-150 in creating design harmony between the two vehicles, which share a platform and specific mechanical components. These include a sleek, curved LED light signature surrounding the stacked headlights and a new grille that curves downwards.
A new crossbar spans the width of the grille, sitting behind The Blue Oval logo. The upcoming Expedition will also feature 24-inch wheels, the first for a full-size SUV.
At the rear, the 2025 Ford Expedition gets new taillights that extend above the beltline, as opposed to the current design, which sits further below it. The redesigned taillights also don’t extend to the sides of the SUV and don’t have the “cascading” design seen on the current model; instead, they are more vertical and slim.
As previously reported by Ford Authority (FA), the 2025 Expedition will also likely have a split liftgate. This includes the bottom (liftgate) and the top (upper liftgate).
The lower section allows users to lower the liftgate as they would in a pickup truck like the F-150. In contrast, the upper section provides access to the rear cargo area without opening the entire liftgate, similar to the rear glass door on the current model.
Thus, the upcoming 2025 Ford Expedition will not have the same rear glass design as the current model, which increases noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels.
There’s even bigger news for the 2025 Ford Expedition Interior. A peek inside a prototype window earlier this year gave us a more precise look at its redesigned dashboard, which boasts new vents and a curved design. The dual glove box setup has been removed, meaning there’s just one glove box; the top level seems to have been removed.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Expedition is also equipped with an infotainment screen that looks similar to the 12-inch unit on the current model, but it could be the 13.2-inch unit found on the updated 2025 Ford Explorer.
It’s worth noting that the screen is arranged in a panoramic orientation rather than the tablet-like vertical screen found on pre-update models. The 13.2-inch unit will operate like a traditional touchscreen and function similarly to the system currently standard on the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus.
Additionally, the physical buttons on the current Expedition have been removed, meaning that the climate control function has likely been moved to the infotainment’s central touchscreen, similar to the 2025 Ford Explorer.
The rotary dial has also been moved and is now located below the screen, not on the center console, flanked by a row of buttons. The overall aesthetic perfectly matches the center stack of the 2025 Ford Explorer.
Under the hood, the 2025 Ford Explorer will likely offer a hybrid engine option. It’s unclear what that engine will be, but it will most likely be the twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 PowerBoost engine that debuted in the 2021 Ford F-150.
Additionally, the 2025 Explorer is expected to retain Ford’s 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, the only option for the current model.
CGI Concept
A redesign of the 2025 Ford Expedition with a spacious cockpit, three rows of seating, and the same underpinnings as the F-Series, this large Expedition SUV has been consistent with the Lincoln Navigator since the 1997 model year.
One thing we love about the Ford Expedition is that its spaciousness doesn’t will never run out of space in an Expedition, even though the Expedition no longer has the nine seats it did in the early decades of its existence.
If eight people don’t have enough luggage space, don’t worry; there’s also the 2025 Ford Expedition Max, which is enormous and likely one of the most giant SUVs in the world, along with the Navigator L, Chevy Suburban, and GMC Yukon XL, Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, and the mammoth Cadillac Escalade ESV.
However, some people may still be less impressed, this time because of the plain design.
We’re unsure if Ford has a natural solution for them when delivering a mid-cycle refresh. Still, the imaginative world of digital car content creators won’t disappoint.
More specifically, the fine folks at YouTube channels PoloTo and TheAutoReport have some CGI dreams of a renovated full-size three-row SUV, and the two-pixel masters are racing to imagine a modern redesign to impress as technology improves.
Assume you are looking for something easy. In that situation, CGI specialists PoloTo took advantage of the Expedition’s natural size and gave it a sleeker but less striking aspect, thanks to full-width LED headlights at the front and rear.
Instead, virtual artists from TheAutoReport take a more extreme approach, with stylish LED headlights and front fascia treatments that vary depending on trim level. The LED geometric design is even more prominent at the rear and is complemented by large, aftermarket-style bronze wheels.
2025 Ford Expedition Changes
The 2025 Ford Expedition is an SUV previously introduced in the 2022 model. This refreshed full-size version has several exterior styling updates, an optional 15.5-inch screen, Sync 4, and two new variants, the Stealth Edition Performance Package and off-road and road-focused Timberline.
We received a report from Ford Authority (FA) in October, which stated that more modifications were being made as The Blue Oval continues its efforts to keep the Ford Expedition competitive in a crowded segment.
Our source FA says that the 2025 Ford Expedition will be more of a refresh following an update from the 2022 model year than a complete overhaul. This is clear from the photos, which show the prototype covered in extensive camouflage but with general styling elements that are very familiar and very much in keeping with the modern Expedition.
Despite the camouflage, there are some noticeable differences, such as a new front clip and a new hood, which are relatively common changes that come with a new car refresh. On the side, we can see that the center section of this large SUV is mainly identical to the existing model, which is not surprising.
It is not so at the rear where we can see the new liftgate and taillight design, which completes some significant improvements. Even more interesting, the rear wiper appears out of sight – perhaps under the third brake light – giving the 2025 Ford Expedition a cleaner look from here.
The interior of this prototype is covered, indicating that it will also likely receive some styling changes and possibly some new technology. Whatever happens, the 2025 Ford Expedition looks more like evolution than revolution, although we’ll have more to report on in the coming months.

Even more interesting is the Ford Expedition 2025 Raptor vehicle, which has high-performance off-road capabilities. We quoted this information from the Ford Authority, which informed us that the Ford Expedition Raptor prototype is being tested and adding fuel to the fire.
The rims and tires this Ford Expedition Raptor prototype uses are identical to the standard non-beadlock units found on the current Ford F-150 Raptor. They are wrapped in pretty big tires—more significant than the Expedition Timberline. They are Goodyear Wrangler A/T 33 in.
Given the unusual front and rear appearance and the Timberline emblem on the tailgate, Timberline seems to be the basis for this prototype. Amazingly, the hood and running boards are finished in camp, and there’s chrome trim on the rear doors, too, which is generally not found on this model.
It is unknown whether this future variant will be branded the Ford Expedition Raptor or equipped with the same extreme hardware as previous Blue Oval cars with that moniker.
However, given Ford’s success with the Raptor high-performance off-road model, applying the same formula to the Expedition makes a lot of sense. However, if approved, the finished product could have a completely different name.
2025 Ford Expedition Hybrid
The Expedition 2025 Hybrid and Navigator models are expected to debut alongside upcoming 2025 model year updates for both models.
These updates include Range Rover-like exterior styling revisions and new taillights for the Expedition, Nautilus-like cues, revised interior design, and even a beach view for the big Lincoln SUV.
