2025 Ford F250: Next-Gen Super Duty Pickup Truck Reviews

Posted on

2025 Ford F250 is a patented and capable truck for those who need a vehicle to tow, haul, or work very hard. The latest Ford Super Duty model will be perfect for this. The proven workhorse truck model would face stiff competition with the Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ram HD for decades, each battling for territory in the lucrative HD work truck market.

Ultimately, it is the consumer who will conclude this fierce match, as the constant state of superiority improves the breed as a whole. For the 2025 Ford Super Duty, that means a tough truck available with a variety of cab and body options, two gasoline engines, and the mighty Power Stroke diesel V-8 in two levels of tuning, the latter maxing out at 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque.

Available in F-250, F-350, and F-450 variations, the most capable configuration touts a maximum towing capacity of 40,000 pounds and a payload rating of 8000 pounds. If that sounds good but a little luxury would make the work day less stressful, buyers can specify varying levels of amenities, including a two-tone leather interior and nap-friendly Max Recline seats that let you snooze when the boss isn’t around.

For busier times, the center console turns into a desk, an onboard generator provides power where and when you need it, and a host of safety and trailer assist features keep everything running smoothly without consequence.

2025 Ford F250 Review

If the F-150’s towing and payload capacity isn’t enough for your needs, or if you want a Power Stroke diesel engine, consider upgrading to the 2025 F-250 Super Duty. The 2025 Ford F250 model truck provides more than enough capability for most truck owners and is one notch below the more powerful F-350, which offers a dual rear wheel (DRW or dually) configuration.

The 2025 Ford F250 is an outstanding heavy-duty (HD) truck thanks to its four powerful engines that deliver best-in-class performance and a long list of useful towing and hauling technology features, like Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch. This truck is also available in trims from the no-frills XL to the ultra-luxurious Limited.

2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty

The F-250’s maximum conventional towing capacity is 22,000 pounds in certain configurations and requires one of the Power Stroke diesel engine versions. With the regular cab, fifth-wheel and gooseneck towing are 22,300 and 23,000 pounds, respectively. The capacity of the SuperCab and crew cab is slightly less.

This towing is certainly sufficient for most trailers and boats that people typically want to tow. The F-250 also offers some cool towing and hauling technology features like Built-in Scale with Smart Hitch (estimates cargo and trailer tongue weight), Pro Trailer Hitch Assist (automatically guides the truck into place for easy hooking), and Turn Signal View ( displays the camera view from the side of the car and trailer when the turn signal is used).

  • The cabin is spacious and comfortable.
  • Excellent towing and transportation figures
  • Many technologies are available to facilitate retrieval and transport
  • Four-wheel drive is standard on most trims
  • Minor updates to feature availability are likely
  • Part of the fourth generation F Series Super Duty introduced in 2023

What’s New

Ford authorities have made minor updates and reorganized options across the lineup for 2025. The 6.8-liter V-8 gas engine is now standard on the XLT and Lariat and is paired with a 10-speed transmission. The 2-kW Onboard Pro Power setup is now optional on the King Ranch and Platinum. The Onboard Scale and Smart Hitch systems are now available on the King Ranch, and a trailer brake controller is now optional on the XL trim.

Super Cab configurations are now limited to the XL and XLT SRW with an 8-foot box. Towing technology gets a boost with individual tire pressure monitoring available for the trailer and the ability to add additional cameras for a better view.

The updated Platinum trim features a Black Onyx cabin with Platinum Blue accents and black exterior trim, and the Lariat gets new seating materials. The new Platinum Plus package includes chrome trim, exclusive leather upholstery, and color schemes. Finally, two new colors join the lineup: Avalanche and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat.

2025 Ford F250 Interior

What about the interior? The F-250’s interior is clearly better than that of the previous generation of Super Duty. It’s not completely changed, but small changes to the control layout make everything easier to see and reach.

There are still dedicated controls for radio and climate settings, so it’s easy to adjust the temperature without taking your eyes off the road. Some controls are connected to the touchscreen, but the system is responsive, and the menus are well organized. Overall, figuring out where everything is and how the features work is easy.

The latest 2025 Ford F250 model is also equipped with a spacious cabin with enough space for a core NBA player inside. Headroom, legroom, and shoulder room shouldn’t be an issue in either row.

The tall ride height makes going up and down feel very uphill, even with our standard King Ranch retractable running boards. However, once you’re inside, the adjustable pedals and good movement for the seat and wheels make it easy to find a comfortable driving position.

Outward visibility is also solid, at least for a heavy-duty truck. There are blind spots, but most models are equipped with a suite of sensors and cameras to aid visibility. Ford even offers cameras and parking sensors that work when the rear doors are down, such as when you’re hauling longer loads. Available surround-view cameras and additional cameras for the trailer further assist the driver.

Technology

How is the technology? The latest Super Duty is packed with in-car technology and some solid driver aids. Nearly every trim comes with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard.

The navigation works well, with clear, easy-to-read maps and turn-by-turn directions displayed on the digital instrument cluster and head-up display.

The 2025 Ford F250 truck features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard on all trims, and there are plenty of USB ports for charging. Some trims also come with a pair of 120-volt household electrical outlets. Our King Ranch model was equipped with an excellent 18-speaker B&O audio system—one of the best we’ve ever experienced in a pickup truck.

There are a ton of driver aids available for the F-250, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, a surround-view camera system, and automatic emergency braking.

They are all easy to use and work well in practice. Adaptive cruise control has a safe range and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop, and we didn’t notice any false readings on the emergency braking or collision warning systems.

Comfort

How comfortable is the F-250 Super Duty? Today’s pickup trucks are much better than they were just a few years ago. While we wouldn’t call them plush, the F-250, especially in top-level trims like our King Ranch test vehicle, felt comfortable on the road, even on long trips.

The seats are flat, but we found them to be soft and well-padded. We had no problems with sore backs or buttocks on long drives. The rear seat is the same, with a flat but comfortable bench that folds down to provide a larger cargo area. Ride comfort is firm and snug but in line with what we’d expect in this class.

The climate control system is cool, and the heated seats heat up quickly. Nobody really does both like American automakers. Controls for the climate system are a bit disappointing because some settings and readouts (such as cabin temperature) are located on the touchscreen, but that’s our only major complaint.

We also found the F-250 to be quite quiet on the road. Yes, there is a bit of diesel engine noise, but it’s not too loud, and it’s not so loud that you can’t talk. Wind and road noise are fairly muffled, although the tires produce little noise at highway speeds.

Infotainment

The base trim of the 2025 Ford F250 XL comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while pricier models get a larger 12.0-inch screen. A reconfigurable 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster is also available. A pair of large volume and adjustment knobs and other physical buttons on the steering wheel make the system feel intuitive.

The rest of the lineup features a 12.0-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 software that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger cab can be fitted with enough accessory outlets to light a Guns N’ Roses concert, including up to two 110-volt power points. All models are equipped with a Bang & Olufsen-tuned stereo system. A 640-watt eight-speaker setup is standard; a 1080-watt setup with 18 speakers is optional.

2025 Ford F250 Engine

The 2025 Ford F250 model with the base-level Super Duty XL trim has a standard 6.8-liter V-8 engine rated at 400 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. A more powerful 7.3-liter V-8 engine rated at 430 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque is also available; this engine is standard on XLT and above.

Of course, every F-250, F-350, and F-450 can be equipped with the crown jewel of the Super Duty Empire’s Power Stroke 6.7-liter V-8 diesel engine. This oil burner produces 475 horsepower and 1,050 pound-feet of torque, or 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque, as low- and high-horsepower versions are available.

For each configuration, a robust 10-speed automatic transmission handles gear changes, and customers can choose between single and dual rear axles. Super Duty also offers an off-road package called Tremor that adds a lift kit and beefier tires along with other trail-ready upgrades.

This heavy-duty Ford performs as expected from a big truck built to tow up to 19 tons. When unladen, the ride is stiff and bouncy, but that sensation subsides when the truck bed is loaded, or the trailer is hooked up.

The 2025 Ford F25, 0 in its most luxurious tri,m does a better job of canceling out wind and road noise on the highway. The truck we drove benefited from a firm, responsive brake pedal, and the steering was controllable at low speeds and in tight spaces where maneuvering the longest models can be difficult.

Performance

How to drive the F-250 Super Duty? The 2025 Ford F-250 we tested has a high-power 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 engine. With 1,200 lb-ft of torque, the F-250 isn’t short on power. The car hit 60 mph in 7.2 seconds, a bit slower than the last F-250 we tested but still competitive for its class.

The drivetrain is smooth, and the 10-speed transmission never feels out of tune or out of gear. Even when towing or hauling, we don’t expect the F-250 to struggle or overwhelm.

The F-250’s steering and handling are average for a heavy-duty pickup, meaning it’s soft and a little disengaged. The steering wheel is easy to turn, but the truck doesn’t respond as much when you do. You have to turn the wheel a lot to steer the car in a parking lot, for example. The F-250 leans in corners, but it’s composed enough that you don’t get tossed around on narrow roads.

2025 Ford F250 Payload

How are withdrawals and deposits? As you would expect from a heavy-duty pickup, the F-250’s payload and towing ratings are excellent. The maximum payload capacity is rated at just over 4,200 pounds (regular cab with base gas V8), although most configurations are rated between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds.

Towing on the latest model, the 2025 Ford F250, is 22,000 pounds for a conventional trailer or 23,000 pounds for a gooseneck. Most configurations fall between 14,000 and 20,000 pounds. Those are all impressive numbers for the class, although there is always tough competition among this group of pickups.

Cargo space and in-cabin storage are both solid. There are tons of bins and cubbies for small items like sunglasses, cell phones, and more. Everywhere you look, there is a little pocket. We were very impressed with the cup holders.

There are plenty, and the one in front is big enough for a wide water bottle. The Ford doesn’t have the Ram’s folding panels to create a flat floor in the back, but the seats still fold down to open up a sizable space for storage in the cabin.

The split-folding configuration of the rear seats means you can also accommodate passengers in the back, provided you don’t need all the space. Installing the car seat should be fairly easy, although the height of the truck may be an issue for some people.

2025 Ford F250 MPG

What about fuel savings? The EPA does not require heavy-duty trucks like the Super Duty to have certified EPA fuel economy estimates. That also applies to trucks from Chevy, GMC, and Ram. With our truck’s high-powered V8 diesel engine, we got about 14.5 mpg in typical city driving. That’s what we see in competitors, although it’s much worse than what we see from light-duty trucks like Ford’s own F-150.

2025 Ford F250 Colors

These colors are available for the 2025 Ford Super Duty F-250; depending on the trim level chosen, some choices may cost more.

  1. Race Red
  2. Agate Black Metallic
  3. Antimatter Blue Metallic
  4. Avalanche
  5. Carbonized Gray Metallic
  6. Darkened Bronze
  7. Glacier Gray
  8. Oxford White
  9. Ruby Red
  10. Star White Metallic

2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty Models

Ford has not released any official information about the 2025 F-250 as of this writing. We’ll update our recommendations if anything changes, but based on last year’s F-250, the XL and XLT trims suit many truck buyers because they offer the most configurations.

Both are available in any cab style and with any engine, but we recommend the XLT because it comes standard with a more powerful 7.3-litre V8, four-wheel drive, and more features. The XLT Premium package’s long list of useful tech features makes it a great addition.

2025 F250 Trim

2025 Ford F-250 XL

2025 Ford F-250 Safety

Most of the range can be fitted with a wide range of driver assistance technologies, including automated emergency braking and a handy multi-view camera system.

Likewise, the blind spot monitoring system operates even while the truck is pulling the trailer. When we tested it, though, the Backup Assist, which automatically guides the vehicle when backing up to a trailer, did not operate for us.

Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for further details on the Super Duty crash test findings. Important safety elements consist of the following:

  1. Standard automated emergency breaking
  2. Within reach, lane keeping aid and warning of lane departure
  3. There is adaptive cruise control accessible.

2025 Ford Super Duty Competitor

There aren’t many alternatives to the F-250 Super Duty. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD also offer slick towing technology and impressive towing and payload capacities, but the Super Duty still tops both trucks.

Suppose you don’t need the extremely high towing and payload capacities of an F-250 or GM heavy-duty truck. In that case, the Ram 2500 is an attractive choice because it offers the nicest interior and most comfortable ride.

2025 Ford Superduty Price

2025 Ford F250 Build And Price: Prices for the 2025 Ford Super Duty start at $47,295 and go up to $79,860, depending on trim and options.

The 2025 Super Duty lineup follows the same trim level structure as the outgoing model. We recommend the F-250 version, which has a spacious crew cab, standard 6.8-foot cargo bed, and single rear axle.

It’s paired with the mid-level Lariat trim, which provides the best mix of creature comforts for the price. To unlock its highest potential, we’d opt for a high-power Power Stroke diesel engine. This machine costs significant extra money, but if serious towing and hauling is on the agenda, it’s hard to beat it.

Models/TrimPrice MSRP
XL$47,295
XLT$53,290
Lariat$66,735
King Ranch$78,970
Platinum$79,860

Verdict

The 2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty is impressive. It can tow and carry large loads and has an intelligently designed interior. It is also comfortable, quite quiet, and easy to drive. Our biggest issue is the price, which can exceed six figures on higher-spec trims.

2025 Super Duty Infographic

We learned that Ford plans to make the new Super Duty competitive by bringing in many high-tech gadgets that can help with towing and hauling. Ford is also expanding the availability of Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch technology to XL and XLT trim levels this year.

This technology helps owners to avoid overloading the F-250. Other features include Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, both semi-autonomous technologies that help you hitch and reverse a trailer. Several cameras improve visibility when towing, and the navigation system can even help you avoid routes that don’t suit your vehicle and trailer.

2025 Ford Super Duty Models

As always, the XLT trim is the most popular option in the F-250 lineup. It is available in three cab designs, has a 7.3-liter V8 engine, and has four-wheel drive.

In addition, the all-optional turbodiesel V8 is also available, as are bench or bucket front seats, essential towing equipment, and the famous 2025 Ford F250 Tremor Off-Road package.

The XLT Premium package adds plenty of multimedia and driver assistance capabilities. Let’s hope the 2025 Ford F250 delivers a better-than-ever XLT package.

Additionally, the Ford F-250 Super Duty comes in regular cab, extended cab (SuperCab), and crew cab (SuperCrew) configurations with a 6.75-foot or 8-foot cargo bed.
