Ford will completely update the 2020 F-Series Super duty to match the incoming competition of the all-new Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ram Heavy duty. Reflecting most of the updates made to the 2018 Ford F-150, expect the new Super Duty to receive altered outdoor styling and new powertrains groups to keep the big truck relevant.
The Super Duty skin is not easily visible under the dashed Ford powertrain, but we can clearly make an updated grid that abandons the Twin-bar design of the current truck. The 2020 Super Duty will replace this style feature with a much more open grille, adorned with a big Ford logo in the middle. We are also waiting for a new headlight design, and the rear end will receive a more sculpted tailgate and more modern taillights.
Under the hood of 2020, Super Duty will probably be updated versions of the current engines of the range: petrol of 6.2 l V-8 and a turbodiesel of 6.7 l V-8. There are also rumors Ford will introduce a new 7.0 L V-8 to replace the Thirsty 6.8 L V-10 available in the fleet configurations, which produces only 288 HP and 424 lb-ft. Expect the new V-8 to make a diesel-rivaling 475 HP, with 550 lb-ft or more.
First, there is the question about the 7.0 L petrol V8 (produced at the Windsor facility with a recent investment of $1.2 billion by Ford) that will likely replace or supplement the existing 6.2 L V8. We asked Ford about the 7.0 L V8 engine directly and received no further clarification. Manufacturers generally do not disclose design details on products to come up to now in advance. The 7.0 L V8 in a Super Duty is still a rumor.
The current 6.2 L V8 is rated at 385 hp at 5 750 rpm and 430 lb-ft of torque at 3 800 rpm.
Ford is already using a 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission in the majority of the Ford F-150 trucks they sell today. There is a report from August 2017 that Ford plans to start producing a heavy 10R140 10-speed transmission in August of 2019.
