The introduction of the Dark Horse SC, which stands for “supercharger,” highlights the manufacturer’s next step at the highest level of stock car racing.
This is truly a dream project for the team, said Arie Groeneveld, Ford Racing’s chief project engineer, during the event. “The opportunity to create a world-class performance icon that’s true to its American muscle car roots using everything we’ve learned on the racetrack.”
With a 5.2-liter V8 engine that uses a supercharger to produce a huge airflow, delivering incredible power for the street version of the Mustang.
The event, hosted by Hollywood star Dax Sheppard in Detroit, Michigan, featured racing icons from various racing genres, including former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, sports car ace Mike Rockenfeller, and NASCAR stars Blaney, Logano, Chris Buescher, and Zane Smith.
As the first person to field the Dark Horse SC, Blaney is excited about what’s to come for Ford in the NASCAR world. Blaney then handed it over to Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing, who announced the arrival of Dark Horse SC in the NASCAR Cup Series.
In 2027, we will bring the Dark Horse SC and make its debut on an American racetrack with an American racing team, the Daytona 500,” said Rushbrook.
Three teams field Fords in NASCAR, each with three cars under its banner: Team Penske with Blaney, Logano, and Austin Cindric; RFK Racing with Buescher, Brad Keselowski, and Ryan Preece; and Front Row Motorsports with Smith, Todd Gilliland, and Noah Gragson.

We don’t yet have any information on what the 2027 Ford Mustang Hybrid will look like, what interior design it will have, or what features it will include. Ford Authority reports that Ford “has an S650 hybrid Ford Mustang model in the works,” according to a source familiar with the matter. Known by Ford officials as the “S650E,” it’s unclear whether the 2027 Mustang Hybrid will use a conventional hybrid system or a plug-in hybrid, according to the source.
We haven’t seen any spy photos of the 2027 Mustang Hybrid yet. However, Ford Authority reports that a prototype that likely features some electrification has been spotted testing. It’s unclear whether the prototype will make it to production, and Ford hasn’t confirmed anything about the 2027 Mustang Hybrid.
Ford officials previously claimed the company hoped to “offer a hybrid option across every Ford Blue brand by the end of the decade,” which would include the Mustang. Beyond confirming that more hybrid models are coming, the automaker hasn’t provided any information about what to expect from future hybrid vehicles.

At least, we think it’s the GT500. There’s some speculation that Ford might move away from the Shelby for the next high-performance Mustang. After all, the car in the latest CarBuzz spy photos is clearly faster than any other version built at the Flat Rock assembly plant.

The front end also has less wasted space than other current Mustangs, including actual vents at the corners, rather than the fake ones found on the Dark Horse and GT.
In this series of images, two different cars are featured. One is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, while the other is equipped with track-ready Pilot Cup 2R tires. Both are equipped with 305/30ZR20 tires in the front and 315/30ZR20 tires in the rear. These tires are the same width as the tires on the Dark Horse Handling Package, but are one inch larger in diameter. This is significantly larger than the 255 and 275 tires on the standard Dark Horse cars.

Although obscured by the mesh, we can see the size of the air intakes in the Mustang’s front bumper. They are higher and the struts are nearly vertical, unlike the Dark Horse’s, which are very slanted.
It’s clear that this car will be able to draw more air to its radiator (and possibly intercooler) to help keep temperatures in check. The front end also has less wasted space than other current Mustangs, including actual vents at the corners, rather than the fake ones found on the Dark Horse and GT.
In this series of images, two different cars are featured. One is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, while the other is equipped with track-ready Pilot Cup 2R tires.
Both ride on 305/30ZR20 tires at the front and 315/30ZR20 tires at the rear. These tires are the same width as the tires on the Dark Horse Handling Package, but one inch larger in diameter. This is significantly larger than the 255 and 275 tires on the standard Dark Horse cars.
