2025 Ford F150 Lightning: Truck models for the second generation Ford F-150 Lightning are rumored to go into production on August 18, 2025, according to reports from AutoForecast Solutions (AFS) and AutoBlog, Wednesday.
AFS estimates a four-month production overlap between the two F-150 Lightning models already available on the market and the next generation until December 24, 2025.

Comfort
The 2025 Ford F150 Lightning features a fully independent rear suspension, which provides a smoother ride than a regular F-150. However, the Lightning can feel too soft and bouncy when driving on bumpy paved roads.
This is especially true for trucks equipped with larger batteries. Road, tire, and wind noise remain low. Most of the Lightning’s electric propulsion sounds are annoying or overly strange. The climate control system is effective and powerful, requiring only minor adjustments to maintain your desired temperature.

However, we saw higher peak levels in our tests. That qualifies as fast charging, but other electric trucks beat the Lightning to a greater degree.
Performance
The 2025 Ford F150 Lightning Platinum has an EPA-estimated range of 300 miles. The EPA also estimates the truck will use 51 kWh of electricity per 100 miles driven, which makes the Lightning slightly less efficient than the Rivian R1T.
In other tests, the 2025 Ford F150 Lightning also managed 332 miles on a full charge, easily topping EPA estimates. During that time, our test truck used slightly less electricity than expected: 45.4 kWh per 100 miles. That beats our results with a quad-motor Rivian R1T on the same route, which covered 317 miles and used 46.9 kWh of electricity per 100 miles.
It continues further, testing also focused on the 2025 Ford F150 Lightning model to find out how quickly it can charge at public DC fast charging stations. In the Electric Vehicle Charging Test, the 2025 Ford F150 Lightning Platinum model could cover a distance of 319 miles for each hour of charging. That’s slow in the context of all-electric vehicles, but its rival Rivian R1T could be much better.
The Lightning can be expensive at its top trim level, but you’ll get a lot of features and capabilities for your money. The build quality and materials are just as good as the standard F-150. There’s potential value in opting for the base Pro trim, but the standard battery pack isn’t suited for long-distance driving or towing a vehicle.
Ford’s three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage are standard. The Rivian R1T offers better coverage, but the F-150 and R1T provide the same five years/60,000 miles for roadside assistance and eight years/100,000 miles for the battery.
