2027 Ford Super Duty It’s a very aptly named vehicle. Available in a variety of cab and bed options, as well as a choice of three powerful powertrains, Ford’s most powerful pickup truck can be equipped for any task, no matter how demanding.
Even the standard 6.8-liter V-8 gasoline engine produces 405 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, but frequent heavy haulers will want the reliable 6.7-liter V-8 Power Stroke diesel engine under the hood with its 1,200 pound-feet of torque capable of unlocking the truck’s maximum towing capacity to 40,000 pounds.
The all-new 2027 Ford Super Duty doesn’t skimp on luxury either, with the top-of-the-line King Ranch and Platinum trims providing a leather-lined cabin in which to relax after a hard day’s work.
We expect the 2027 Ford Super Duty to be directly involved in the decades-long rivalry with the Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ram HD, where the three trucks vie for supremacy as heavy-duty workhorses. The Super Duty has the highest towing capacity of the three, but the Ram HD was recently updated, and the Silverado HD lineup has even more variety.
What’s New
After some minor changes and option adjustments last year, we expect the 2027 Super Duty to still deliver a nice and significant change from last year.
2027 Ford Super Duty Report
The Ford Super Duty Redesign is about to enter a refresh phase as the highly popular and profitable Ford Super Duty just got a redesign for the 2023 model year, along with some key updates for the 2025 model year.
However, we always look forward in the automotive world, which regularly brings refreshes and redesigns, and in the case of the Ford Super Duty, that will definitely happen in the near future.
Previously, reports suggested that the Super Duty would get its next proper refresh in 2026, followed by a redesign in 2028, and the new report seems to continue to support those claims.
According to Automotive News (AN), the Ford Super Duty is expected to get a “minor refresh” in 2026 (likely for the 2027 model year), followed by a redesign in 2028 (likely for the 2029 model year).
The early refresh will coincide with the start of Ford Super Duty production at the Oakville assembly plant in Canada, which is currently being retooled for that purpose after production of the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus ended there last year.
As for what we can expect from the 2027 Ford Super Duty in the future, the larger pickup has long been rumored to receive a hybrid powertrain option, which would be a first for the model. This report suggests that the electrification option will come as part of a redesign rather than a refresh, meaning it could debut before the end of the decade.
A similar thing was also reported by one of the Ford Authority (FA) media previously, the Ford Super Duty is one of several models that has the potential to receive the EREV (extended range electric vehicle) powertrain option.
The powertrain combines a large battery pack with a gasoline drivetrain to provide substantial all-electric driving range and reserve power for longer trips, or when hauling or towing heavy loads.

2027 Ford Super Duty Interior
Those looking for the base XL trim should expect a fairly basic cabin, but beyond that, the rest of the Super Duty lineup offers more stylish surroundings. Enhanced comfort and luxury features become available with each trim level, and Ford has designed front seats that recline nearly flat so drivers can rest comfortably during long-distance overnight stops.

Tall rear passengers will likely only enjoy the rear seat experience in the SuperCrew cab model. The longer SuperCab configuration has a small rear seat and an equally small rear door.
We can predict that buyers will be able to choose from a standard cab, an extended SuperCab, or a four-door SuperCrew cab with two bed sizes (6.8 feet or 8 feet). The Super Duty’s numerous compartments and versatile trays are highlighted by a large storage bin in the center console on models with bucket seats. Crew cabs take storage a step further with a lockable box under the rear seat.
Tech
The 2027 Ford Super Duty comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while more expensive models get a larger 12.0-inch screen. A reconfigurable 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster is also available. A pair of large volume and adjustment knobs, along with other physical buttons on the steering wheel, make the system feel intuitive.
Other models feature a 12.0-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 software that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Larger cabins can be equipped with enough accessory outlets to light up a Guns N’ Roses concert, including up to two 110-volt outlets.
All models come with a stereo system tuned by Bang & Olufsen. A 640-watt setup with eight speakers is standard; a 1080-watt setup with 18 speakers is optional.

2027 Ford Super Duty Hybrid
Ford has begun planning a series plug-in hybrid system for use in SUVs and potentially some of its largest pickup trucks. In a statement”Ford will develop flexible body-on-frame and unit-body platforms that will be designed for multi-energy powertrains as needed given the realities of customer affordability and range requirements. Farley pointed to a combined range of 700 miles on the EREV (range-extended EV), which combines the range of the battery pack and gasoline-powered auxiliary drive.

It’s expected that such vehicles will follow a series hybrid format, using an internal combustion engine as a generator, with an electric motor actually driving the wheels. A plug-in hybrid version would allow for a battery pack large enough to offer substantial electric range, with the combustion engine acting as a range extender.
Ford didn’t provide a specific launch date for the powertrain, but according to a Bloomberg report Tuesday, it will likely be used in Ford’s heavy-duty trucks, branded Super Duty. The powertrain could begin appearing in larger trucks and SUVs as early as 2027, around the same time Ford hopes to update its electric vehicle lineup with more affordable models, according to the report, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
Farley explained that while Ford may see a good opportunity for small and mid-size electric vehicles, especially as a second vehicle in a household, for larger retail electric SUVs, “the economics are not solvable.”
“These customers have very demanding usage requirements for their electric vehicles: towing loads, driving off-road, and traveling long distances,” Farley explained. “These vehicles have poorer aerodynamics and are very heavy, which means very large and expensive batteries.”
The CEO then explained that while fleet customers have shown a willingness to pay more for fully electric trucks, retail customers have not. But with the EREV layout, Farley said, the additional investment for such a vehicle is “very minimal.” That, the CEO said, could allow Ford to offer EV driving attributes without a price premium.
Last year, Ford said it planned to launch more hybrid vehicles and reduce electric vehicles in response to what the automaker considered unfavorable market conditions for all-electric models.
They canceled plans to launch a three-row electric SUV originally planned for this year, while announcing new midsize and full-size electric pickup trucks for 2027 and a commercial van to be produced in Ohio starting in 2026.
Other automakers are also considering gasoline-powered auxiliary powertrains for trucks. The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is scheduled to arrive at dealerships later this year, ahead of its electric version, the Ram 1500 REV, whose launch has been delayed until 2026. The Ram 1500 is the largest full-size truck still classified as a light-duty vehicle, while Ford’s Super Duty trucks are classified as heavy-duty vehicles and therefore not subject to the same efficiency and safety standards.
We Volkswagen Group’s new Scout brand also plans to offer a wider-range powertrain, called the Harvester, for the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, in addition to the all-electric powertrain. Both models are scheduled to launch in 2027.

2027 Ford Super Duty Engine
The Super Duty’s base-level XL trim comes standard with a 6.8-liter V-8 engine with 405 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. A more powerful 7.3-liter V-8 with 430 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque is also available, standard on the XLT and above. Of course, every F-250, F-350, and F-450 can be equipped with the Super Duty empire’s flagship engine: the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel engine.
This diesel engine produces 475 horsepower and 1,050 pound-feet of torque, or 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque, as low- and high-output versions are available. A reliable 10-speed automatic transmission handles gear changes for each configuration, and customers can choose between a single or dual rear axle.
The Super Duty also offers an off-road package called the Tremor, which adds a lift kit and larger tires, along with other off-road enhancements. This heavy-duty Ford performs as expected of a large truck designed to tow up to 19 tons. Unladen, the ride is stiff and bouncy, but that sensation subsides when the bed is loaded or a trailer is attached.
The most luxurious trims are better at dampening wind and road noise on the highway. The truck we drove benefited from a firm and responsive brake pedal, and the steering was easy to control at low speeds and in tight spaces where maneuvering on the larger models can be difficult.
Engines: 6.8-liter V-8 405 hp; 7.3-liter V-8 430 hp; 6.7-liter V-8 diesel 475 or 500 hp
Transmission: 10-speed automatic transmission
Drive system: rear-wheel drive; all-wheel drive
2027 Ford Super Duty Performance
In a diesel-powered race, the Ford Super Duty equipped with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine beat the Duramax-powered Chevrolet Silverado by a significant margin in our testing. The F-250 SuperCrew 4×4 we tested hit that speed in 5.5 seconds, while the Silverado 2500 needed 6.4 seconds.
- Acceleration test 0-60 mph (C/D): 5.5 seconds (SuperCrew 4×4 6.7-liter diesel V-8)
2027 Ford Super Duty Payload
The Super Duty offers a maximum payload capacity of 8,000 pounds and can tow up to 40,000 pounds with a gooseneck attachment, 35,000 pounds with a fifth-wheel attachment, and 30,000 pounds with a conventional attachment. To handle all of these loads, the manufacturer has equipped this truck with a number of trailer towing assist features.

These include an onboard scale with Smart Hitch, which estimates the load weight in real time and provides guidance on weight distribution at the front of the trailer. There’s also Trailer Navigation, which can optimize travel routes based on the trailer’s dimensions and weight.
Competitor
Towing capacity is often the deciding factor in 2026 heavy-duty truck comparisons, and here, Ford once again outperforms its competitors. With the right configuration, the Super Duty vs. Silverado 2500 towing capability comparison favors the Ford, with the ability to tow up to 40,000 lbs with a gooseneck trailer and 30,000 lbs with a conventional trailer.
2027 Ford Super Duty MPG
Because the EPA doesn’t test vehicles as heavy as the Super Duty and its larger competitors, we base our own assessments on our own testing. On a 75-mph highway fuel efficiency test route, the 2023 Ford Super Duty F-250 SuperCrew 4×4 with the high-powered Power Stroke diesel engine achieved 20 mpg.
- We expect the optional Power Stroke diesel engine on the Super Duty to be the most fuel-efficient engine in the lineup.
- C/D Highway Fuel Consumption Test 75 mph: 20 mpg (6.7-liter V-8 Power Stroke engine)
2027 Ford Super Duty Price
Pricing for the 2027 Ford Super Duty starts at $49,270 and goes up to $82,260 depending on the trim and options selected.
We recommend the F-250 with a spacious crew cab, a standard 6.8-foot cargo bed, and a single rear axle. Pair it with the mid-range Lariat trim, which we believe offers the best combination of comfort and convenience for the price.
To maximize its potential, we’d opt for the high-powered Power Stroke diesel engine; it’s more expensive, but if you’re serious about towing and hauling, it’s hard to beat.
| Models | Prices |
| XL | $49,000 |
| XLT | $52,000 |
| Lariat | $66,000 |
| King Rach | $81,000 |
| Platinum | $82,000 |
Safety
Most models can be equipped with advanced driver-assistance technologies, including automatic emergency braking and a useful multi-view camera system. Likewise, the blind-spot monitoring system even works when the truck is towing a trailer. However, the Backup Assist feature, which automatically steers the steering wheel when backing into a trailer, didn’t work when we tested it.
For information on Super Duty crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard Safety Features: automatic emergency braking
- Optional Safety Features: lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control.
