2021 Ford Bronco: Famous Car Designers Splashy Statement About New Ford Bronco Designs

2021 Ford Bronco here comes the trending lately. Surely you rarely hear car designers talk openly about the work of their contemporaries – especially those from other companies.

While they will have more freedom to talk about (or pan) vehicles from the past, designers rarely talk about new cars, trucks, or SUVs, perhaps to avoid making their peers uncomfortable with embarrassment or praise.

That’s just one of the many reasons why Frank Stephenson’s new video analyzing the 2021 Ford Bronco is so compelling.

Who doesn’t know this one father Frank Stephenson, he recently started his own YouTube channel dissecting car designs, best known for his work in the rebirth of the Mini brand – in particular, he’s credited with writing the R50 Mini Cooper.

Anything other than one-hit magic, Stephenson went on to lead the job on the first BMW X5 before hanging his shingles on Ferrari and Maserati.

He will eventually oversee design at McLaren Automotive before starting his own consultations. In other words, Stephenson knows what he’s talking about – especially when it comes to revitalizing the old signage – so it’s really interesting to hear him talk about Ford’s new Bronco.

Suffice it to say, Stephenson loved what he saw of Paul Wraith and the Company’s new body-on-frame brawlers. In particular, he appreciates that the Bronco puts its utility up its sleeve, but “this vehicle doesn’t look like something you use as a chainsaw, it has a softness which I find very attractive,” he said.

Stephenson went on to say, “It always surprises me how we can still capture, as designers … the mature feeling of a vehicle that precedes it by 20 or 30 years. It’s kind of matured in a very restrained way.”

Only 8 minutes long, the videos are a quick spectacle, and a bit less detailed than some of Stephenson’s other videos where she dissects the vehicles she designed, such as the previously mentioned X5 and McLaren P1.

In the end, Stephenson gave the Ford Bronco 2021 an 8.9 out of 10 on his personal design scale – and he freely admits he never gave any vehicle a perfect score. (This, from a man who is not afraid to openly criticize a new car design, even from the company he used to work for.)

Stephenson’s design score seems pretty close to the world’s reaction to the Blue Oval’s new SUV so far, but we have a long time before we can see this new 4×4 on the road and on the trail to be sure.

The new 2021 Ford Bronco will go on sale at dealerships until next spring. In the meantime, if you’re still interested in watching more about the new Bronco design, be sure to check out the recent Roadshow interview with the new SUV designer, which is packed full of exciting nuggets and surprising details.
