2022 Ford Expedition from the information we get if you transport a large family and pull a heavy trailer together, there are several options outside of Expedition that can afford it.
Offered in the standard Max body style and long-wheelbase, the Expedition offers three rows of spacious seating, plenty of room for cargo, and a towing capacity of up to 9300 pounds (when properly equipped).
Under the hood is a 3.5-twin-turbocharged V-6 that drives the rear or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
If you want, Ford will be happy to sell you luxury models that do their best to mimic the similar Lincoln Navigator trap mechanically.
However, the price for such an expedition makes its value questionable when compared to legitimate premium competitors.
The dynamics of driving are also boring, and the 2020 Expedition always feels this big, which can cause anxiety when navigating narrow spaces or changing lanes in heavy traffic.
Ford has added King Ranch trims to the Expedition for 2020, which is equipped with luxury items such as retractable running boards, 22-inch wheels, premium Del Rio leather upholstery, and original wood trim.
All Expedition models are now standard with the Ford 3 Sync infotainment system and the Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance features, which include automatic emergency braking, lane assistance, and blind-spot monitoring.
The Platinum Range-topping model receives a new 22-inch wheel design and leather seats that cover more cab.
2022 Ford Expedition Hybrid
In this section, Ford and the UAW ratified the new four-year work agreement last Friday without the fireworks we saw in the UAW-GM negotiations.
All said and done, that’s a good thing for both parties. However, the new employment agreement is not without news at all.
It provides a lightweight road map of future products as a document lays out investments for US production facilities and mentions several vehicles.
Specifically, the agreement affirmed that there were a Ford Expedition hybrid and a Lincoln Navigator hybrid on its way. Ford did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the news.
We first heard about the possibility of a hybrid Expedition and Navigator two years ago after a report pegged the launch of 2019 for a large electric SUV.
While that doesn’t happen, it seems that the information is still almost right about money. The same report also said the Escape plug-in hybrid was on its way, which Ford has since confirmed.
2022 Ford Expedition Interior
On the interior side of the Expedition has a square dashboard with large air vents and materials that increase with a slimmer level.
Each Expedition also has 15 cupholders and foldable third-row seats.
Our Platinum test vehicle features are not available in lower trims such as multi-contour front seats with massage functions, leather door-trim accents, real wood in the center console, and steering wheel wrapped in premium leather.
Even though the inside is beautiful inside, the plastic that looks cheap in the cabin is a striking and unacceptable violation of its price.
Both Expeditionary models have spacious interiors and – unlike most other rivals – the third row will not torment adults.
While a three-seat bench is standard for the second row, a pair of captain’s chairs are optional.
With three rows of chairs and two long body styles, Expedition and Expedition Max were made to transport people and property – lots of people and property.
Although we only tested the expanded version, it has a competitive capacity and interior storage that is second to none.
Each model has a third row of power-folding that can be controlled from the cargo area or rear seat.
The second and third rows fold completely flat for a flat floor, making it easier to load items.
The expedition is an infotainment sanctuary, with many connectivity options and many features available.
The 8.0-inch touch screen Sync 3 infotainment system with Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and 4G LTE mobile hotspot is standard; navigation plus real-time traffic and additional weather costs.
A back seat entertainment system is available, but only in Limited, King Ranch and Platinum trim.
2022 Ford Expedition Engine
Expediting the Expedition is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 and a responsive 10-speed automatic transmission that is paired with rear-wheel drive or all.
The XLT and Limited models have a 375-hp V-6 version, but at the top-level Platinum, it’s set to 400 horsepower.
Although we haven’t tested the basic engine, it won’t be faster than the 400-hp version we sampled on short and long-wheelbase models.
All Expeditions use the independent rear suspension which provides better ride and handling than the axle-life arrangement of the Chevrolet and GMC alternatives.
While passengers feel comfortable with a gentle ride, the driver is liable to penalties for unpleasant handling and improper steering.
Those who can afford top-of-the-line expeditions owe themselves to checking out the 10-class Mercedes-Benz GLS winner for the best overall driving experience.
2022 Ford Expedition MPG
This hefty carrier-class certainly does not help conserve fossil fuels.
Ford claims the EcoBoost engine (twin-turbocharged V-6) is more efficient than the V-8, but the Expedition did not fulfill that promise.
Rear-drive expeditions are rated by EPA in the city of 17 mpg and 24 highways; the all-wheel-drive version goes down to 22 highway.
Both the regular length expedition and the longer Max Expedition produce 20 mpg on the 200-mile highway fuel-efficient route. While the Denon Yukon 420 hp fails, it also matches Ford’s tangible results.
2022 Ford Expedition Price and Release Date
We will be careful when shopping for Expeditions because the more you spend the more Expedition disappoints.
The XLT model with the 202A package offers luxuries such as foot-activated liftgate, remote start, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated steering wheel.
We will make one suggestion on behalf of vanity: Switch 18-inch standard wheels to a series of more attractive (and proportionately suitable) 20-inch rollers so that the XLT Expedition doesn’t look too cheap.
