The full-size Ford F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in the United States, but when it comes to smaller midsize trucks, Ford is behind the curve.
When Ford withdrew its Ranger from the United States in 2011, the medium-sized truck segment was more or less dead. It was stocked with the buyers of aging vehicles don’t seem to care. But in recent years, the new versions of the Chevrolet Colorado (and its GMC Canyon Twin), Honda Ridgeline, and Toyota Tacoma have revitalized the segment. The former Nissan Frontier stubbornly still hangs, and Jeep will launch its highly anticipated gladiator in the calendar year 2019.
Therefore, for the model year 2019, the Ford Ranger has returned. Shoppers have a choice of two body configurations – SuperCab with a 6.0-foot bed, and super crew with a 5.0-foot bed – and three adjustment levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. An XL SuperCab rear pull base starts at $25,395, while a fully charged four-wheel drive Lariat super crew Tops $45,000. Dealers are taking orders now, but deliveries don’t start until January.
Even after Ford stopped selling the Ranger in the United States, he continued to use the name of the internationally sold trucks. The 2019 Ranger is based on the current version of the global market, but Ford says it was redesigned to a large extent for North America.
“This [truck] is based on the Global Ranger platform, however, is designed exclusively for the North American market,” said Brian Bell, Ranger’s marketing manager. The main changes include a new frame and the configuration of the suspension, and a specific motor train for the North American market. The exterior style has also changed a bit.
Ford and other car makers are making bold style choices with their larger pickup trucks, but they don’t seem to be dripping to medium sized models. The Ranger has a rather conservative look, but again they also do most of the other trucks competing against.
At least the Ranger design is functional. Unlike the Toyota Tacoma, the hood is tilted down and the front overhang is very short, providing good outside visibility either off the road or just navigating a parking lot. In contrast to the Chevrolet Colorado, the front fascia also does not hang away, so it is less likely that the bodywork will be caught in the obstacles.

The interior seems as plain as the outside and is not exactly the last word in sophistication. Even the Top-of-the-line version Lariat is under rental, despite its leather upholstery. But this is a truck, after all. If you want luxury, buy a sedan.
The Ranger is available with a four-door super crew cabin or a SuperCab, with halfback door and narrow rear seats that are only suitable for short trips. As with many other trucks, the four-door cab is only available with a shorter pickup box, so buyers have to choose between the cabin space and the bed. Ford will also not offer a traditional two-door cabin with no rear seats. The interior space is approximately the average among the current medium-sized trucks, although the Honda Ridgeline offers substantially more passenger volume. That’s because the Ridgeline is essentially a Honda Pilot crossing with a pickup bed.
The 5.0 feet and 6.0 feet boxes fit 43.3 cubic feet and 51.8 cubic feet of matter, respectively, according to Ford. Both boxes are 44.8 inches wide in the wheelhouses, with a maximum width of 61.4 inches. These numbers are compared to the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, and Nissan Frontier, and far ahead of the Honda Ridgeline.
The 2019 Ranger gets the well-known Ford Infotainment Sync 3 system, with support for Apple display/Android auto, an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot and a single USB port. Top-level models can be equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, additional USB ports, and a B&O playback audio system.
Sync 3 proved to be a reliable and intuitive Information Entertainment system, even if there were not too many bells and whistles. A Lincoln Navigator may not have simple graphics, but it adapts very well to Ranger’s meaningless values. It is also easy to read, regardless of the vehicle. We also thank the vital functions such as the temperature between the analog controls in the Ranger. The B & O PLAY sound system provides proper sound quality, but it is not an important feature.
The Ranger is available with a range of driver assistance, including individual emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane monitoring assistance, and blind spot monitoring. As with Ford’s larger trucks, the blind spot monitoring system can include a trailer as well as a trailer.

In addition to road-driving technology, the Ranger has several features designed to facilitate on-road driving. The FX4 package includes a version of the F-150 Raptor Performance Truck Land management system and a system called Trail control.
The land management system adjusts various vehicle parameters for different surfaces. Includes four modes: normal; Grass, pebbles and snow; Mud and rush; and sand. On the off-road course set up by Ford, Ranger was able to switch from loose dirt to sinking in a mud swamp. The track control functions as off-road cruise control, acceleration and deceleration management while the drive is running. He guided the guards down a steep hill, with no problems.
