2024 Ford Focus: Great Family Hatchback Compact Car Reviews

Posted on

2024 Ford Focus high-performance was still available in the United States from 2016 to 2018. However, it was phased out with the transition to the fourth-generation model in 2019. Based on the current generation model, a born-digital artist has designed the 2024 Ford Focus RS concept with aggressive styling and RS-specific visual enhancements. The Focus RS concept will likely have a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with better power output, comparable to the Mustang EcoBoost, but Ford has not officially announced plans for a new Focus RS.

Ford Focus RS is no longer available. Between 2016 and 2018, this crazy hot-hatch was available in the United States. This MKIII variant has a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine based on the Mustang EcoBoost. The four-cylinder engine produces 350 horsepower, propelling the Focus RS to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

2024 Ford Focus Review

With the rapid development of vehicle types in the automotive world. One of them is the Ford Focus model which is very popular with Mr and Mrs car buyers in the UK. A look at the development of the New 2024 Ford Focus is very important to us because, over the years, it’s been a great ride, and has produced some of our favorite hot hatchbacks. We shed a tear when Ford revealed there would be no more RS models, mainly because of ever-tightening emissions regulations, so it’s a relief that the fast Focus ST continues.

Only the fourth, although we get your point: the current edition has been around since 2018 and only underwent a slight facelift at the end of 2021, with a new front grille and standard LED lights front and rear.

The fourth-generation car has outperformed its predecessor with sleeker looks, stiffer dynamics, and improved crash safety, so Ford didn’t have much work to do when it came time for a refresh. Oh, and it already weighs less than the third-generation car – 1,325kg for the three-cylinder manual transmission.

2024 Ford Focus

The 2024 Ford Focus is one of the family cars that symbolized the company’s 1990s revival and became the byword for the fun-to-drive family car, set to be killed off in 2025, a victim of Ford’s shift towards the electric car lineup. The news comes with Ford’s announcement that it will end production of the car in Saarlouis, Germany, the plant where the Focus is currently manufactured.

Saarlouis was in the process of producing Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles but lost out to the company’s factory in Valencia Spain. We don’t have in our planning cycle any additional models coming into Saarlouis, Ford Europe chairman Stuart Rowley told reporters, adding that Ford was investigating “other opportunities” for the plant that included selling them to other automakers.

That means job losses in Germany, although it is possible that some workers could be transferred to another German Ford plant in Cologne. Which is slated to start production of a new crossover based on VW’s MEB electric architecture in 2023. Automotive News reports that 4,600 people are currently working in the area of Saarlouis.

But Ford has warned that Valencia could also expect its headcount to drop, despite winning a contract for Ford’s next-generation electric car. About 6,000 people work at the Spanish factory where the Kuga crossover, S-Max Galaxy minivans, and Transit Connect are manufactured.

The D-segment Mondeo was also built there until recently, Ford dropping the once-popular family sedan and estate in the spring of 2022 in response to falling sales as buyers turned to crossovers. The Mondeo badge has been a regular fixture in Ford’s European showrooms for nearly 30 years, but Ford has proven time and time again that it’s not sentimental.

The company ditched the three-decade-old Escort name in 1998 when it introduced its successor, choosing Focus instead to underscore the radical change it represented over what had gone before.

2024 Ford Focus Updates

The 2024 Ford Focus is the family car that epitomized the company’s 1990s rise and the byword for the fun-to-drive family car that will die in 2025 as a victim of Ford’s shift to electric cars. The information we got from Carscoops says: that this coincides with Ford’s announcement that it will stop car production at its factory in Saarlouis, Germany, where the Focus is currently produced.

Saarlouis was in the process of producing Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles but lost out to the company’s Valencia plant in Spain.

“In our planning cycle, we have no additional models coming to Saarlouis,” Ford Europe chairman Stuart Rowley told reporters, adding that Ford is investigating “other opportunities” for the plant that include selling it to other automakers.

News: Ford Focus 2024

It is emerging that the 2024 Ford Focus model, which symbolized the company’s rise in the 1990s and became synonymous with fun-to-drive family cars, will be phased out by 2025 as part of Ford’s transition to an electric portfolio.

Ford said it would stop production of the car at its factory in Saarlouis, Germany, where the Focus is now made. Saarlouis competed to build Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles but lost out to the company’s factory in Valencia Spain.

Of course, this will result in job losses in Germany, but some employees will probably be transferred to Ford’s other German plant in Cologne, which will start production of a new crossover based on Volkswagen’s MEB electric architecture in 2023. According to Automotive News, Saarlouis now employs 4,600 people.

Despite securing a contract for Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles, Ford has warned Valencia that its workforce will be reduced. About 6,000 people work at the Spanish factory that produces the Kuga crossover, S-Max, and Galaxy minivans, as well as the Transit Connect. D-segment Mondeos are also made there today; Ford will discontinue its once popular family sedan and estate in spring 2022 due to falling sales as buyers turn to crossovers.

The Mondeo emblem has been a common sight in European Ford showrooms for almost 30 years, but Ford has repeatedly demonstrated that it is not sentimental. When the automaker launched its successor in 1998, it ditched the three-decade-old Escort brand in favor of the Focus to emphasize a significant change from the previous brand.

2024 Ford Focus Redesign

Ford stopped selling the Focus in the United States when it switched to the fourth-generation model in 2019. In Europe, the latest version is available, but there is no RS grade. With Ford ceasing production of conventional Focus cars by 2025, a new Focus RS is unlikely to appear any time soon.

As a final farewell, digital artist Rostislav Prokop imagines the incarnation of Ford’s legendary hot-hatch in 2024. His digital concept is based on the MKIV Focus and depicts how the current-generation hatchback would look in a high-performance avatar.

The previous Focus RS variant had the same basic appearance as the conventional hatchback model. The main differences are that the high-performance model has angrier bumper covers, new wheels, a split grille, and a large roof-mounted spoiler at the rear.

The idea for the 2024 Focus RS was designed by Prokop with the same philosophy. The renders are based on the pre-facelift version, which has more aggressive styling than the facelifted MKIV Focus, which debuted in 2022.

It’s an expansion of the 2019 Focus ST with RS-specific cosmetic upgrades. The artist was inspired by the black trim piece that covers the lower part of the MKIII Focus RS’s grille.

The swept-back headlights are similar in shape to the original car but with dark-tinted internal glass and LED strips. The front bumper cover design is identical to the 2018 Focus ST, as are the brackets to house the fog lights.

2024 Ford Focus Concept

The bottom of the bumper is designed differently. The bottom half curves upwards to create an aggressive shape and is much wider than the original car. On this Focus RS, Prokop also included a stylish, adjustable splitter.

The car has a wider track and enlarged wheel arches. The fenders have vents that channel air from the front of the vehicle. The Focus ST’s sharp body lines are much more visible here. The dark blue color scheme contrasts nicely with the black trim elements, especially the cool multi-spoke alloy wheels.

From the back, you can see that this Focus RS, like the previous generation, has a massive wing on the roof. The dark taillights look good, as does the large diffuser that sticks out from under the rear bumper cover.

The Ford Focus RS features the Mustang’s powerful EcoBoost engine. The rear view also shows the twin exhaust tips protruding from the diffuser, indicating that the Focus RS is powered by a gas engine. The current generation Focus ST, which is available in the UK, is powered by a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

The engine produces 276 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of peak torque. Ford claims a 0-60 mph sprint time of 5.7 seconds. While this is better than the current-generation Focus hybrid vehicle, the 2024 RS will need a more powerful engine to compete with modern hot hatches like the new, 310-hp 2023 Civic Type-R.

The 2018 Focus RS features an even angrier version of Ford’s 2.3-liter turbocharged engine. It uses the same engine as the Mustang EcoBoost version, but produces more power.

While the pony car’s engine produces 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of peak torque, Ford upped the performance to 350 hp in the Focus RS. As a result, this sporty hatchback can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 165 mph.

The engine from the current generation Mustang EcoBoost will most likely be used in the new Focus RS. The same 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine powers the 2024 model. Ford increased the power output to 315 horsepower. Peak torque remains unchanged at 350 lb-ft.

2024 Ford Focus RS

The Focus RS will compete with the slower Volkswagen Golf R, as well as the Audi RS3 and Mercedes A45 AMG, which are all much more expensive.

If anything, the new 2024 Ford Focus RS is more similar to the picnic table-winged Escort RS Cosworth than the previous Focus RS, as both are four-wheel drive. A 2.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, similar to that found in the new Ford Mustang, provides power.

It produces 350 horsepower, making it the fastest Focus ever sold. If that seems like a small figure, the independent tuner Mountune can boost it to 375 horsepower for £1,050.

While four-wheel drive technology is impressive, what Ford has done with it is truly interesting. Rather than giving the Focus a super-planted system, the company took the opposite approach, using high-tech mechanics and advanced electronics to make the car easy to shift and, as a result, fun to drive. It’s fun in a way that its competitors, the Audi RS3, Mercedes A45 AMG, and Golf R, have never achieved.

Full aero modification ensures your RS is never confused with the 1.5-litre diesel model driven by your elderly neighbor. It contains a deep front bumper, rear diffuser, and boot lid-mounted spoiler that not only looks fantastic but also improves stability, while the gaping grille keeps the engine cool.

One of the most attractive aspects of the RS model is its price, which is expected to be much lower than its competitors.

2024 Ford Focus ST

For decades, the Ford hot hatch has served as a car that remains reassuring in an increasingly crazy world. Since the first-generation Ford Focus in 1998, there have been more exciting versions to take the every day to the next level – the initial car featured the tough RS, while the second-generation model added a slightly softer ST version beneath the model.

It’s still fast, usable, and fun; however, the price is no longer as cheap as it used to be. However, this won’t last forever; The current fourth-generation Focus was introduced in 2018, facelifted in 2022, and will be irreplaceable when it goes on sale in 2025. To make room for another crossover, no doubt. Meanwhile, competitors include the Volkswagen Golf GTI (and its Skoda and Cupra brethren), BMW 128ti, Hyundai i30N, and Honda Civic Type R.

The 2024 Ford Focus ST is quite simple if you avoid the Mean Green paint (the iconic orange on the previous model is no longer available). This is slightly different to the standard 1.0-litre Focus ST-Line. The 19-inch wheels help, as does the lowered suspension. However, the new Focus panels are too bulging for the road presence and taut aspect we want from a hot hatch.

However, this obscures all the specific engineering work that goes into producing the ST. This doesn’t feel like a spiced-up Focus, but rather something grittier. For example, there is an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, rather than just braking control for the slipping wheel. Adaptive damping is standard. The brake servo is powered by an electric pump and can adjust the fade whether you’re doing it on the track or down a mountain trail. The suspension was of course reduced (-10mm) and strengthened. The steering is quicker too.

The 2.3-liter turbo engine produces 276 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. You want a conventional six-speed manual transmission, not a seven-speed automatic (which is only capable of producing 306 lb-ft of torque).

And, nowadays, no sports car can be considered respectable without a mode button, located on the steering wheel. There are four options: slippery, normal, sport, and track. This impacts normal things, like throttle maps, ESP thresholds, and sound enhancement. Add a Performance or Track plan to access additional dampening bandwidth.
Because the differential is electrically regulated, Sport and Track modes provide higher lockup (and thus steering torque). The new servo also improves braking response at the top end.

Hot hatches, like the 2024 Ford Focus ST, are designed to deliver all the everyday functions of a family hatchback, but with the added excitement of something a little sportier. Its practicality remains largely intact: there’s ample space in the back, the boot is large, and the ST is a comfortable cruiser on smooth motorways, even if passengers might feel a touch green in town.

It all makes Ford’s decision to copy Volkswagen’s mistake even more baffling: the buttons have been removed from the center of the dash and replaced with a strip along the bottom of the 13.2-inch touchscreen. This makes the Focus a little more annoying to use, a little less safe on the road, and feels completely unnecessary.

The Focus ST has a lot going for it in the hot hatch category, which is becoming increasingly rare. Plenty of speed, plenty of space, a soulful engine, a great manual gearbox, and a chassis that makes for a laugh. We can’t help but think the inside is a step back in terms of safety and usability as some designers fantasize about working for Tesla, but it’s not as bad as the latest VW, Seat, and Skoda interiors, which is a good thing.

Overall, the 2024 Ford Focus ST remains an excellent all-rounder, but it’s no longer the cheapest car or the most buzzy car in its class, which may make it difficult to differentiate itself from a talented group of cars.

2024 Ford Focus Facelift

The Ford Focus Facelift 2024 is officially launched in China, showing a mild style difference compared to the European model that debuted last year. This model is available in sedan and hatchback forms, coming with a single non-electric four-cylinder petrol engine under the hood.

The 2022 Ford Focus China leaked last February, but new press photos give us a better look at the update, with every bit of information available on the official website. In terms of style, the Ford Focus Facelift 2024 model is more similar to the European model than before.

However, on the Chinese Focus, the grille blends in with the headlights for a more aggressive look inspired by the fighter jets, while the LED graphics are also different. Also, the black trim on the grille and intake contrasts with the body-colored wings on the front bumper.

The profile remains unchanged while the rear gets a slightly sportier diffuser with dual exhaust pipes. In terms of length, the Ford Focus Hatchback 2024 measures 4,401 mm (173.3 inches) and the sedan measures 4,664 mm (183.6 inches) while maintaining the same wheelbase of 2,705 mm (106.5 inches).

Chinese buyers don’t get the Active crossover style variant but they do get the sporty ST-Line and a new S Edition inspired by the discontinued Focus RS.

The ST-Line is equipped with 18-inch charcoal gray alloy wheels with red brake calipers, while the S Edition features glossy black alloy wheels alongside a black rear spoiler and a set of racing stickers.

2024 Ford Focus Interior

On the model side, the mid-life Facelift also includes minimal interior changes except for the base-spec Trend trim which receives a large 13.2-inch infotainment system that handles navigation, media, and phone connectivity. Ford claims the screen is the largest in the segment, but this comes at the cost of adequate climate control buttons, which are now incorporated into a small bar at the bottom of the screen.

However, it is quite a pleasant driving experience. The front seats aren’t the most comfortable we’ve ever sat in, but the back is very spacious, thanks to the much larger wheelbase compared to the cramped third-generation Focus. With the seats up, boot space is 375 liters, just five liters less than a Volkswagen Golf.

There are all the standard driver assistance features that today’s consumers expect, and you’re not only helped but connected. Download the Ford app to perform various tricks remotely, such as finding the car, checking the gas, locking it, and so on. Local hazard information will also alert you to any potential hazards that may occur, even if they are not visible due to a bend in the road or another vehicle.

New Ford Focus 2024 Interior

Inside the cabin, we find an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that incorporates the SYNC + Zhi Mo infotainment developed by Ford and Baidu (different from the SYNC 4).

Equipment includes a B&O audio system and the Ford Co-Pilot360 ADAS suite that offers Level 2 autonomous driving. Depending on the model, we find black and blue seats, carbon fiber styling and trim like suede, blue seat belts, and a perforated leather steering wheel with red stitching.

Unlike the EU-spec Focus which is available with a lightly turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, the Chinese model gets a more powerful 1.5-liter non-electric four-cylinder EcoBoost unit that produces 178 hp (132 kW / 180 PS) and up to 270 Nm of torque ( 199 lb-ft) in overboost mode.

The manufacturer is exclusively mated to a sporty six-speed automatic gearbox that differs from the European seven-speed automatic clutch and is equipped with three driving modes – standard, economy, and sport.

Power is sent to the front axle which allows acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.9 seconds.

Ford says it has realigned the suspension and steering in the facelift model, while the ST-Line and S Edition variants get a sportier chassis setup with a mount 10 mm (0.4 inches) closer to the ground. Brakes are also upgraded with 308 mm (12.1 inches) front discs and 302 mm (11.9 inches) rear discs.

The ST-Line comes with 18-inch gray alloy wheels with red brake calipers, while the S Edition comes with glossy black wheels alongside a black rear spoiler and a set of racing decals.

Why Did Ford Stop Making The Focus RS?

Small and compact automobiles are seeing a significant drop in sales as SUVs and crossovers become more popular. This shifting buyer mood was a major factor in Ford’s decision not to introduce the fourth-generation Focus to the United States.

Due to the poor sales of this class of car, it would not have made sense for the brand to invest in bringing the new-generation model to the United States.

Because of the growing popularity of SUVs and crossovers, Ford has altered its worldwide product strategy, gradually phasing out compacts from its lineup. The Mustang is the sole Ford vehicle available in the United States. The MKIV Focus will be the hatchback’s final generation in Europe.

Ford has not issued an official statement regarding the revival of the Focus nameplate for a future all-electric car. So, for the time being, it’s reasonable to assume that there will be no Focus RS.

While Ford has opted to retire from the hot-hatch arena, Honda intends to continue the struggle. In an interview with Autocar, Honda revealed that the Civic Type-R will be electrified in the future. It is unknown what form it will take.

We hope Ford decides to bring back the Focus RS soon and that we get to see it in a new guise, potentially as an all-electric variant.

What Is the current price of an MK3 Ford Focus RS?

Ford Focus RS MKI and MKII were exclusively offered in Europe. As a result, obtaining one in the United States would be tough. However, there are numerous MKIII Focus RS for sale on auction sites and used-car websites.

In North America, Ford marketed a limited amount of the third-generation Focus RS. The brand allocated 1,000 units to the United States, while Canada received 500. An MKIII Focus RS costs an average of $35,686 according to Classic.com. The highest price paid for this model was $77,947.

These figures represent an amazing opportunity for collectors and fans to acquire this fantastic Ford hot-hatch.

2024 Ford Focus Engine

On the engine side of course there are plenty of petrol and diesel alternatives to choose from, but here’s the big news: the Focus, like its Puma, Kuga and Fiesta counterparts, is now a mild hybrid, with a starter motor/generator combined with 48 volt lithium. -The ion battery is neatly hidden behind the front seat.

The battery stores the energy generated by braking and coasting and then uses it to increase torque from the very small 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine – available in 123bhp or 153bhp trim – by up to 50% at low rpm, or 15 lb ft at full load.

With hybrid gubbins, the less powerful engine (available from the lowest-spec Trend trim onwards) starts from around £25k, while the more powerful unit (available from the Titanium trim upwards) starts from around £26k. Both emit between 116 and 134g/km CO2 and claim 47.9mpg or higher, representing a 15% improvement over the non-hybrid version and figures we think are generally achievable if we tread carefully. It’s worth noting that the less powerful MHEV is only available with a seven-speed DCT transmission, but the more powerful system can also be paired with a six-speed manual.

Of course, you can still get a 1.0-litre petrol without the mild hybrid feature, as well as a 1.5-litre diesel for those who like to refuel at the black pump. However, our experience shows that you should ignore this and choose a hybrid. More on that under the Driving tab. Meanwhile, the journey leads to the following question.

The Focus RS will compete with the slower Volkswagen Golf R, as well as the Audi RS3 and Mercedes A45 AMG, which are all much more expensive.

If anything, the new Focus RS is more similar to the picnic table-winged Escort RS Cosworth than the previous Focus RS, as both are four-wheel drive.

Full aero modification ensures your RS is never confused with the 1.5-liter diesel model driven by your elderly neighbor. It contains a deep front bumper, rear diffuser, and boot lid-mounted spoiler that not only looks fantastic but also improves stability, while the gaping grille keeps the engine cool.

2024 Ford Focus

Verdict

It seems there are almost as many suspension systems as there are engines. The torsion beam configuration is used on the lowest power hatches. It has a banana-shaped spring that pushes the outside rear wheel outward when the car goes around a corner, keeping the rear arm straight and the wheels aligned.

Meanwhile, the more powerful hatchback gets short and long arm configurations (as pioneered by the original Focus). The advantages include quiet driving and precise steering.

Then there’s the crossover-style Focus Active which has additional black plastic wrap and what Ford calls ‘rough road suspension’ with a slightly higher ride height. So it’s not strictly an off-road vehicle. The estate receives a revised SLA system configuration, with the dampers positioned almost horizontally to increase boot space. The top version also has the option of adjustable dampers.

The 2024 Ford Focus is a triumph in the compact car segment. With its powerful engine options, captivating redesign, comfortable interior, and advanced features, it offers an exceptional driving experience. Whether you’re a daily commuter or an adventure seeker, the 2024 Ford Focus has something to offer everyone.
