However, they do say that this expansion “paves the way to bring multi-energy technology to the next generation of Super Duty trucks.” While we don’t expect the Super Duty to be fully electric, especially since EVs still lag behind gas trucks in terms of towing and hauling, a hybrid powertrain would make a lot of sense, especially considering how popular it is in the smaller F-150 truck.

The current F-150 model offers a hybrid setup, which places an electric motor between the twin-turbo V-6 engine and the transmission. It’s also unclear which engine the next Super Duty will use, as the current generation has two gasoline V-8 engines (6.8-liter and 7.3-liter) and a 6.7-liter diesel V-8.

Ford stated that adding heavy-duty truck production to the Oakville Assembly Complex, which will be the third Super Duty plant, will initially add enough capacity for an additional 100,000 trucks.
